Thank you ladies, all very interesting. And all of these shops have these hidden apartments? DH would have a breakdown fit if I went in to one of these stores. But what he doesn't know won't hurt him...besides he would be even happier not getting a real bag charged to his card right ;-)

I have a question about how real the fakes look? I know nothing about handbags - real or imagined - so I thought I woudl ask the experts here - can you tell? Or maybe the question is: if you put the really good fakes you have bought next to the real thing what would be the differences you could spot? Thanks! I really wanted a taupe birkin but Hermes have sold out of all bags at the mo, so I went to Karama a few weeks ago and found one. It is almost identical to the real thing, no one would know by looking at it even if you hold a real one up next to a fake you have to really look closely to see the slight difference in leather quality.

That's a good question wbusy....my Birkin is a very good copy and you wouldn't really be able to tell it wasn't real (other than the fact that this is Dubai so everyone knows the Birkins are fake!). I got another Hermes bag from teh same shop (well apartment really....you go through a bookcase to get to the stock) and that isn't a perforect copy but it is still a great bag and gets lots comments. My friend took one back to the UK and apparently it's the envy of the other school mums!

i went a couple of week ago and was really disappointed by the range and quality. three years ago they had great stuff, now it's a poor comparison. i think they had a big raid a few months ago and the stock hasn't got 'back to normal' yet.

Yes you can...I take all my visitors here and they love it (usually followed by dinner at Karachi Darbar). I paid 600 for my 'Birkin'. You will need to be taken to an apartment though for the best stuff...don't be worried about this!

Last time I was amazed how much they wanted for them, I couldn t find one I like under 650 WTF I dont think so lol My sister in law went a few weeks ago, got a Lancel handbag, they were asking 600, she ended up getting it for 100!! She is so good at haggling!!

When I first went with a friend years and years ago I was soooo frightened lol now I go on my own hahah Then you must be en expert on how to handle those guys who do their best to get you in the shop. What do you do not to let them harass you and at the same time to keep your sanity? I almost lost mine today. I dont speak - not a word and i just keep walking staring straight ahead with an awful look on my face - i ve got it off to a fine art after all these years lol :)

My regular "bag man" (not that I'm obsessed with handbags!) is in a small shop next to a large shop called green eye. If you go in there they will take you to a shop strangely called ASDA, round the back which is fake bag heaven. Be prepared to barter hard and never appear too keen is my advice,

I went to Karama last week, a few days before xmas and the couple of shops that I use frequently said they had no named bags as they had been raided recently, so I hope you have more luck than I did.

i've only ever seen fakes there, sometimes they ask you to follow them to a nearby apartment or to a sectioned off area of the shop (that is where they mainly stock the genuine fakes), so don't be alarmed if they take you some place else. My visitors love Karama ! enjoy :) When I first went with a friend years and years ago I was soooo frightened lol now I go on my own hahah

Hi, going to visit Karama tomorrow for some handbag shopping. Is it only good there for fakes or real leather non branded bags as well? Any other bargains to be had in Karama? Any shop suggestions? - have no idea where to start. TIA I have no suggestions for ya....sorry. But I wish I was going with you....I've never been!
