Hi all

I am trying to adopt a tortoise for my daughter and have tried a number of places such as posh paws animal sanctuary but to no avail. If anybody knows of a tortoise that needs a lovely new home please contact me. I live in a villa with a lovely garden that would make a great new home.

Thanks in advance

How long a tortoise can live? In some cases well over 100 years

Hi Fiat, do you have any more tortoises for re-homing? I am a long-term resident of Dubai and have recently moved to a new villa and have been trying to find some large-breed tortoises. If not, does anyone else know where I might find some that require new homes? Are you still looking? Friends of mine have a Pond slider(15cm long, 200g) and 3 Leopard tortoises(mom and dad 40cm long, and a 10 month old child) that need a new home.... Two guinea **** need a new home too....

Thanks so much for the info, Fiat! Bubbling Creek- Of course we have long term plans for all our pets! A pet is forever, unless she outlives me!!! But by then my Dr Doolittle Daughter will probably have taken her anyway... Long- It is a pretty big commitment that YOU will ultimately be responsible for, not the kids, so be sure that you want a tortoise too...

Long- Please advise your contact details and I will reply. Bubbling Creek - to answer your question we certainly have plans, our tortoises have already been with us on two moves and have the required certificates. We arrived back in Dubai with 3 dogs, 1 cat, a hamster and 13 tortoises! Fiat edited by Fiat500 on 03/01/2014

Do you all have plans on how to take care of these tortoises when you go away? Good point! My rescue dog (500 aed donation to the animal shelter), no vet bills because he's a mixed breed tough boy, is costing me 13,000 aed to relocate him to UK later this month, then £25 per month for pet insurance when I get him there! wouldn't change it though!

Hi Champagneblonde The good news about Sulcata's is that they don't often need to see a vet, in fact I can only remember taking once in 28 years of keeping them here. I have taken other types of tortoises to Nad al Sheba and found them to be good. I have a care sheet I can let you have and will email you on Saturday when I have a moment. Always happy to talk tortoises! Fiat edited by Fiat500 on 28/02/2015

Hi Fiat500 & Laura2, Hijacking post a bit… But I am a vet nurse who has just adopted a mature Sulcata lady who I am totally in love with… Wanted to ask two questions; 1) Best vet in Dubai for tortoises? (I am not practising in DXB & have very limited exotics/reptile experience anyway so not in the know…) 2) Best online site for advice re: bathing/wallowing & general sulcata advice. (I know a lot of sites are not aimed at our ME climate but still…). Any tips, advice, pearls of wisdom? champagneblonde77 at g mail dot com TIA edited by champagneblonde on 02/01/2014 The best vets for Torts are Nad AL Sheba, they can have water when the temp is warmer, remember cold blooded. Many like a nice warm tray of water to go in and drink.
