Hi everyone, I am moving out of Dubai in October, and I dont want to take my carpets with me. they are Heriz Carpet, handwoven persian carpet. one of them is square, 2x2 meter. 2 of them 1.5x2.5 and one of them is 2x3 I know they are worth 7000 to 9000 dhm each. or if anyone has any idea where I can sell them, please let me know. I am so worried for these carpets, they are in such great condition and I know they worth so much but I really can not take them with me. I hope I can find a good home for them.

I bought my carpets from Sheba Carpets in the Central Souq (Blue Souq) in Sharjah. Rashad (owner) sells only hand made carpets - silk, wool, and combinations - varying qualities and prices. I just love all my carpets and have checked prices of similar carpets in Dubai and found that the carpets I got from Rashad were also very well priced. His phone number is 050 6786168 if you want to call for directions to his showroom. I highly recommend him. He also organizes cleaning. (I have pets and a young daughter!!!!)

So there are no good Iranian/Persian wool rugs? Only silk rugs are considered good/best? Does one put a "best" Persian silk rug on the floor or is it considered art? What about hand knotted Persian wool rugs, are they more valuable than a machine made silk rug? edited by marycatherine on 05/06/2012 Off course there are!! Silk is just more expensive. Hand knotted is always more valuable than machine made.

I was told by a dealer that silk rugs should be put on the floor not the wall. They have their rugs scattered all over the place and there are no signs telling you not to walk on them - they must have faith in their rugs!

Not all "proper" Iranian/Persian rugs are made of silk or are they? The best ones are.

After much looking around we purchased a carpet from Rashed at Sheba. He was definitely the best on price. He came to our home twice with many rugs, left them with us then came back another time with more options. So helpful and so much easier than going back to Sharjah. If you are looking for a rug, visit the mall shops, narrow down what you want, get an idea of prices then call him and he'll bring what you want if he has them. He was much cheaper than the shops in the mall.

Could people also give an idea of price (I know it depends on size, materials, style and kpsi), at least order of magnitude? I sometimes feel like I get quoted 5-6x what I should pay.....

At the Blue Souq in Sharjah you can visit Sheba Carpets - I have dealt with Rashad for years and been happy with my purchases. However, only you can decide if the price and quality (and your level of comfort) are good for you. Keep shopping around, you may find as you educate yourself and are exposed to the wide variety available, that you find your "carpet guy" you are happy with. Only you can decide.

Our Iranian carpets came from Hatta on the border road... its the best place because they are so many selling carpets that you can bargain a very good price. You will need to carry your ID as it is after a check point :)

Hi, we went out to the Blue Souk/Central Souk in Sharjah to look for a carpet, yet there are so many stores and the ones we saw all sound very convincing, yet vary in price. Have no idea which is a good store and if we are getting a good price. Does anyone have a recommendation?. I did do a search and saw Sheba come up and we did visit him and he seemed lovely. Didn't move too much on price though. We are looking for the Iranian Nain type - Cream, Navy, red colours and good quality. Size about 3.5m x 2.5m - any ideas on price guide would also be helpful if you have purchased one. Thanks :)
