Update: Took my 2+4 year old to go watch Madagascar. The 2 year old fell asleep halway and the 4 year old became a bit fidgety after an hour but still sat there with his popcorn waiting for the end. He told me he enjoyed it and would like to come back to see Ice Age too! :)
Handy hint, if you are with OH have him go in and watch the trailers and let LO run around in foyer (without irritating other cinema goers obviously) have OH text you when film starts, this cuts about 20 mins off the film time. My son watched all of Cars 2 when he was just two and he ran out of patience about 15 mins before the end.
i took my 2.8 yrs daughter to watch Ice Age 4 (not 3d) first 10 min she was huging me ...as its too dark ....then she was eating popcorn and watching for 20 min then the playground open ... we left in total she stay quiet . for 40 min ;) before we left
I took my 7 month old to Madagascar recently, had to take my 7 and 5 yrs old ...she sat and played quietly with me, and had a nap in between.... that film worked, I wouldnt have taken her to the Amazing spiderman as would have been to loud for her...so i had to miss that one out and boys went with dad.
DD who is 4 loves some movies and will not sit through a whole one. I think sometimes it depends on the movie even. Give it a go, set clear rules before you go and then just be prepared to leave half way through. :)
i brought my 2 1/2 tod in the cinema for ice age 4,she behaved well enjoyed her popcorn and finished the flick.after the movie i asked her if she enjoyed the movie and she said "yes" ;)

Some of the kiddies movies are quite short for that reason. Check the length of the movie before deciding. I loved Madagasar and the cinema was full of young children, some quite unsettled but mostly quite absorbed. You could choose a midday movie when less people in the cinema?
My MIL wants to take my DS to go see a movie at the cinema however he just turned four and can barely sit still for a cartoon. At what age did you take your child to go to the cinema?
