Al Adil Supermarkets are great for spices. There is one very near the Museum, one at Karama and another near MoE.

Carrefour also usually has them in the baking section. They are much cheaper there than at Waitrose or Spinneys.

Beats paying nearly AED 30 for 2 pods in Spinneys then! Think I'll hit the Spice Souq and stock up!

They definitely have them at the spice souk, I was offered the pods at prices ranging from 1 dirham per pod to 4 dirhams per pod (I didn't need any so those were pre-negotiation offers).

spice souk has loads! drive down to the creek, park near dubai museum, if you know that, then catch an abra over to the other side. it's heaving with tourists at the moment so should be very obvious where it is when you get off the abra.

I have always purchased the pods from spinneys and Carrefore. Dont forget when you scrape the seeds out put the pods in a bag of sugar and you have vanilla sugar :) edited by mushypeas on 09/01/2012

Yes you can buy them in the spice souk. Make sure they feel nice and soft and bendy this means they are fresh. They usually have different qualities. Make sure they don't rip you off and haggle. :)

I've bought them in spinneys before - quite expensive. I'm sure if you can get them in the Spice Souk you will pay a fraction of the price (don't know if you can though-sorry!)
