We've got rearfacing too. It's a recaro polaric wee bought in Scotland but I know for sure the shop divers to Dubai as they were sending note out the day we were there. The research into erf is too sound to ignore, imo, so I'm very glad we went with what we did. You need isofix in car. Maybe go to just kidding to search what they have then see if cheaper in Europe

If you want to go rear-facing, try www.carseat.se. I believe they ship to Dubai but I'm not sure how their prices will compare to the Netherlands or Just Kidding here. I know current advice is rear-facing at least until 2 (and maybe 4 in some countries) but forward-facing correctly fitted is safer than unrestrained, so if you feel rear-facing will be just too much then go with forward.
You can get something called a Buggy Driver from ELC which also works for car seats. It's a toy that clips to the sides of the seat so your child has something easily accessible to play with while you're driving - this might be worth a go if you think he'll kick up a fuss about being strapped in.
And as everyone else says, be consistent and firm. Better a grumpy strapped-in toddler than one that's just been flung through the windshield.

Thanks Ayda, I hope to be firm - I realise it will be necessary :). THanks both for suggesting front-facing might be the way forward ;). I had been thinking of ordering from the Netherlands site coz DH is traveling to London and I could save some money doing that - I guess I could go and try a few in a shop here first. Would you suggest Just Kidding?
Hi sadubai
As you say, there is significant research to support the use of a rearfacing carseat for as long as possible, but as with everything it is a personal choice that you need to make yourself, and also whether this will fit with your car. We have DS in a rearfacing carseat purchased here in Dubai (Just Kidding) that should last him until he is around 4 years of age. He has been absolutely fine with this and we have never had any issues strapping him in, as he does not know there is an alternative - but, he has been in a rearfacing carseat since birth, and never travelled in a car unless he has been belted in. The only thing I would say if your child has been travelling in a car sitting on laps forward facing, and you now shift them to rear facing, they may get motion sickness - they may not, but it could happen so I would be aware of this.
When you go to purchase your seat, the shop should be able to tell you what you car can and cannot fit, so it will be a seat by seat basis. We googled while we were in the shop if they did not know (or come home and do it, as you want to ensure it is going to fit your car!)
As Ayda247 mentions, regardless of whether you chose rear or forward facing at this stage, you strap your LO in, and they learn right from the first trip, they are in a new car (so new rules, regardless of how they have travelled before) no carseat, no car ride. If you ever compromise, they know they don't *have* to do it every time, and this is when you have problems. Yes you may have problems the first couple of times with them fighting it as they learn the news rules, but once they realise there is no other option, there isn't really much to fight about!
Good luck!
As a toddler, i think he is alright to use a front-facing car-seat..do not make any compromise even if he kicks up a fuss at first.
Kids adapt very quickly and he will accept it soon enough as long as you are firm.
Hi. We recently moved here and I am thinking about a car seat for our toddler now that we have finalised a car. We did not have a car earlier so for almost 2 years he has been unused to a car seat. I've read recos for rear facing car seats and am just wondering how kids take to them. My concern is that he is new to being strapped in and the added newness of facing the back will just freak him out. Any advice on which brand works well for an Audi Q5? Any advice on this whole topic would be much appreciated!
