Scotland:)
Sorry had to say it:)
totally agree :D
I live on the Palm, and rather live in the Ranches!!! I have no kids, but LOVE the community and walks you can do around the ranches (more of a community feel to it) compared to the Palm where i have NO neighbors on 3 sides of me!! it is just dead out here....
If I had a decent allowance I'd be looking for somewhere by the beach in Jumeira or Umm Suqeim, nothing's too far away and it's cooler with the sea breeze, even in the summer.
I would rent a super big villa at PALM , its like heaven.
Although I live in Jumeira, actually Um Suqeim and I love it , walking distance to beach and community is nice.

It is not one location against the other, but on this forum when someone say w"where should i leave in Dubai" the answer is always Arabian Ranches..
There's a reason for that.
I love AR and we wouldn't live anywhere else in Dubai. Unfortunately we don't have any kids in our area and have only met one neighbor. Our neighbors aren't very social and the park in the afternoon is filled with children and nannies, no parents. But we still love it here, especially since it's so quiet and convenient to everything.
Claire, don't be upset, i had noticed before how much you like Arabian Ranches and you location, but this is your point of view. My husband works in Media City, i work from the house, my super active kids play tennis, golf, run after schools. My little one can go to school on his bike and all his friends are in the Lakes, Spring, Meadows.
My 13 years old take the subway at Dubai Marina when he needs to. My life style is not at all near Arabian Ranches, so yes i find it far away and i don't like the access. Breteuil it's funny how people say that Arabian ranches is far from anywhere. I have found completely the opposite! It's the same 15 minute drive to moe we have the much bigger and better spinneys 5 mins away. There's the golf club and the polo club on the development. We used to live in jumeirah islands and i felt it was handy but having moved to Ar we see so much more of Dubai because everything seems to be 15-30 mins away. We often do a night out at souk al Bahar it was a real hike from Ji to there for a night out. Since the new flyovers have opened and the roundabout has gone Arabian ranches is a fantastic location to get to most places and..... If there's bad traffic you have far more options sheik zayed, al khail, emirates road nd the 611. We have loved our time on Arabian ranches, indian cooking classes, thai cooking, baking demos, book club, cocktails and canapés competitions, dips and drinks, dessert club and that's just what I get up to there plus the nicest group of neighbours for amazing dinner parties and casual sheperds pie in the garden!!!

Emirates Hills is quite nice and house start at 600000. They are the nicest houses in Dubai but no play grounds for the kids. But you can bike around the lakes, and kids meet in the Meadows also.
On this forum a lot of people like Arabian Ranches which i find very far away from everything, but it seems to be nice for the kids. Jumeirah is really nice but even with a good allowance it is difficult to find a modern house but you should find a great location. Anyway real estate is really strange here so good luck, it should not be too hard !
I forgot to the golf which is just in front of Emirates Hills (my kids play there, walking distance). It depends you center of interests, i don't find myself driving all the time from this area because my center of interests are in this area ((Golf, Tennis, Running around the lakes). The MOE is a 15 minutes drive and the big Spinneys less than 5. I often go to Dubai Marina which is less than 10 minutes aways. My youngest goes to DIA and has plenty of friends in Meadows, Springs, Lakes. Everything depends of you life style.

lol oops.. sorry 600,000 aed ..
Husband can work from home... so again, not tied down anywhere.
Would anybody choose Emirates Hills, Palm Jumeirah? seems these places have the houses in those price ranges but maybe Arabian Ranches is better?
I wouldn't choose either of those (they are lovely) if my kids were being homeschooled. You will end up being a taxi driver all over Dubai! Al Barari would fit your budget but I don't think you can beat Ar for giving your kids the opprtunity to meet kids and do lots if activities without you having to drive so far. Forgot to put golf on the let of things or them to do too. My little boy met lots of different kids there all going to different hoos. Rattan villas are the largest oneson Ar.
I too would live somewhere cheaper and bank the rest (assuming you get the whole allowance regardless of actual rent cost). In fact, I'm such a cheapskate that I would probably live in a smaller place for around 150K and revel in having the rest in the bank :)
If you'd rather not bank it or have to spend 600K on rent itself, Al Barari villas are stunning - even the gardens along the main road are beautiful!

600 aed! You'd need to buy a tent and find a nice piece of desert! 600k I'd do the same as cyclone. Lovely villa with pool on Arabian ranches and bank the rest. Your kids will have so many other kids to play with and there are lots of after school things on Arabian ranches so they'll meet friends quickly and not feel left out from not attending a school. Ida do football, join arabian knight rugby, brownies, rainbows etc
Do you mean AEd 600,000 pa? In that case, anywhere I damn well like :D
If schooling isn't an issue, what about work? Do you have a DH who'll be working? If so you may as well aim to be in the right area of the city for that at least.
Communities such as The Lakes, Arabian Ranches, Green Community are family-orientated places.
You had approx 600aed to spend on housing per annum and you were homeschooling so didn't need to be near schools? Id love input on great housing communities in this price-range... convenient.. but ideally in a place where my kids can play with other kids either in the neighborhood or on the beach.
Cheers! and thanks for any input!
