Do you know how much the annual rent on your property is? Housing fee should be 5% of that divided by 12, as you pay it monthly - no more, and I don't beleive they can backdate it. Good luck and cheer up! edited by Cornish Pixie on 04/10/2011 Just to advise - it CAN be backdated. From January this year up until August I didn't realise I was paying double my housing fees until someone I know from DEWA pointed it out to me. Eventually after following up phone calls and visiting main office to produce documents they already had in their possession, waiting around for them them to rectify my account, they then advised my overpayment was recredited to my DEWA account. Now what I'd like to know is why the **** I had to visit their main branch personally when I didn't even have to sign anything or retrieve cash as in my overpayment? As far as I'm concerned they are hoping those that notice the overpayments will just waive it as most people either can't be ar*** or have the time to go visit their office. Also fortunately this came to light just before I left my Springs villa as I understand that once you've moved from the aforementioned property you can't claim it back. Hope this helps

So it turns out that last month when I thought I had paid online that even though I got confirmation they never actually got round to sorting it so this is why my bill is so much, because it's also last months bill again.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but all this DEWA discussion had got me kind of whipped up regarding my ever increasing DEWA bill each month. We live in the Springs, no changes in habits or family number, and yet when I looked up my bills for last year at the same time, our bills have virtually doubled. Last year, our October bill was 904 dhs, I just paid today for October's bill -- 2000 Dhs. Last month was 1,700 +. This just makes me sick and, frankly, I am so over Dubai. And, by the way, my yard is burned out brown because I refused 2 years ago to waste the month. So, these increases are virtually electricity only.

It's well strange isn't it- I know it's not the same huge amounts but my bill is usually 260 dhs for a one bed flat- last month was 671 dhs and I was away for half the month and am hardly in the rest of the time- I did query it but they said ohhh maybe problem with meter ask building management to look- if DEWA come and look they charge you 300 dhs......... anyway decided to wait and see and this month's seems more like it... 171 dhs. Really strange why August was way too expensive! I have been panicking turning everything off! Don't like surprise bills! Hope next month's back to normal too! I am wondering if they estimate in one month and read it the next... such wide fluctuations are scary!

I don't mind errors but when you are living in a 4 bdr home with little grass, no water leaks and no pool and getting 5.5K per month bills and the meter is apparently working as per Dewa standards, you have got to ask yourself the question. Honestly, they are taking the p*ss edited by derien on 04/10/2011 Agree after my 9K bill last month! Have stopped all a/c (we are sweating like ****), maid now hangs washing outside, reduced irrigation by more than half and still had 4.6K for this month.

Dewa is a huge scam. The way they operate is illegal. It is a HUGE scan and expats are paying the priceWrong. The locals are also getting errors on their bills, so don't assume anything.

Good luck and cheer up! edited by Cornish Pixie on 04/10/2011 Thank you C P. Until now it has always been 5% but today on the online bill it is 10% and I was a little shocked. I would wait until you get the paper bill. When I used to check online it always showed the 5% housing fee but the paper bill, when it came, never did. I used to pay the amount on the paper bill and it was never a problem. You never know, you [i'>migh[/i'>t be lucky...

It seems DEWA are making quite a few mistakes these days, I dont think I now anyone who hasn't complained about their bill...maybe they need the money and they think we are all stupid enough not to notice?

Are you sure it's not because you didn't pay last month?

Don't you mean that you feel the workers here are useless? Imagine if it were your job to answer the phone all day and the only answer you could ever give to anyone is "I don't know." It would make me insane after a short while! I kept saying "I can't get there at the moment and just want to know why" "Yes it's on SZR is that ok?" NOOOOOO! Big mistake..... too many words - needed to say "NO car - tell me now" or "i want to speak to manager now"

DH is away at the moment and we have just received our latest Dewa bill and the housing fee is double what we normally pay. I call Dewa who tell me to call Dubai municipality, I call them and the woman tells me to go to Al Manara street and ask them. I say " No I have no transport at the moment, why can't you tell me?" "Yes maam go to Al manara street, would you like durections?" "No I wouldn't because I'm not going, I just want the answer to my question!"...long pause..."Anything else?"...I put phone down. Why can't you ever get a straight answer? Just feel a bit useless! :(
