I always pick up my favourite champagne at Newcastle duty free and bring it in no problem.

i had a friend who had wine in her checked luggage and they marked on with chalk how many bottles she had. That was quite some time ago mind you (5 years I guess). If you or anyone you know shop at Barracuda (dont need a lecture thanks) then they seem to consistently have Oyster Bay Sav B at 50 or 55dhs a bottle. Although up to Christmas it may sell out more.

Sydneygal I have a couple of friends who LOOOOVE Oyster Bay and they are always going on about bringing it back, so I guess either they don't have it or it's hit and miss. Is there a number you can call to ask? Try google Dubai Airport, I know they have a web site so there should be a switchboard you can call and ask to be put through... this is what I do as they don't seem to have online duty free like other places.

I've brought bottles in before. On the rare occasion I pack them checked I just put them in plastic, roll them in clothes, plastic again then put a few layers in the suitcase, the bottles spaced apart then pad that with clothes. Never had a problem and the bag chuckers in Sydney are notorious :P You can also buy inflatable wine packers online, the good one which is from Sweden or Norway (forgot the name sorry) is leakproof also. Just remember if you plan to do this take your license with you as you might need to show it on the way in. If you bring the alcohol and can't produce the license (even if you have one) then you can be fined or worse. Also I would avoid bringing booze through an Emirate you don't hold the license in- e.g. flying into Abu Dhabi and you live in Dubai, with alcohol is as good as importing without a license (as I understand it) the tourist rules do not apply as you are already a UAE resident. HTH

I thought you can only carry 50 ml in a ziplock baggie thing on the plane :\: I think they are putting it in their checked baggage where the liquid allowance is whatever you want The 50ml ziplock is for hand luggage ( although i dont know if bringing lots of alcohol in your suitcase from another country is legal) Imagine if the baggage handlers threw your case and it all smashed yikes...

I think it's 4 litres which equates to 5 bottles of wine. Aah thank you ( I did remember bringing 5 through the last time) :-)

Same here, just wrap in plastic and then pad well with clothes. Doesnt matter where you bought alcohol as long as not over limit. Shame it cant be hand luggage anymore, was a lot easier.

According to Dubai customs website each person can bring in up to 4 litres of Alcohol free of duty. Does anyone know whether this has to be purchased from the duty free shop, or can you buy it in your home country and then bring it in. I am going home at the end of November and was thinking about bringing back my favourite champagne for Xmas, which isn't stocked at duty free. Any thoughts on whether this will be okay in checked luggage.......? Thanks I thought it was 5 litres here?

We had 2 bottles each in our checked luggage, plus we bought 4 litres each at the arrival duty free. All went ok!
