I'll get right to the point.... How do I preserve Tonsils?

DD has had hers removed and was asked if she wanted to keep them. Of course she said yes!
Right now they're sitting in a jar on my kitchen counter staring at me :( Hopefully she'll get grossed out eventually but in the mean time I'm thinking I need to put them in some kind of liquid.
Tried googling but funnily enough couldn't find an answer.

Vodka?

sorry but this is just super GROSS. why did they give the tonsils out instead of treating as "dangerous organic waste", how weird. It's actually quite common (in some countries!) to be asked if you want to keep your spare parts. Yep, a bit gross, but not unusual. :D

How is it dangerous ? same way as a dead body is dangerous. as it decomposes bacteria (and later worms) feeds on it. that's why dead bodies are buried or burnt. But it's sealed in a jar and being preserved in liquid...

We would use formalin in a hospital setting. They could have given you some at the hospital. Not sure if you can get it outside of one.

Does this help? http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MNovec/Home/Applications/Preservation/BiologicalSpecimens/ Could you not ask the surgeon who removed the tonsils what they suggest?

Vodka, rum, maybe even gin... just don't put it in your bar! You may also ask at the pharmacy, they might have something (i.e. spirit.. not sure if you can get it here)
