Thank you plumie,
I have just checked out your link. I'm definitely going to go with the Grobag, loving that you can use them in the car seat - I see many a headache eased away with that feature! - there's also 10% off if you buy two! Bonus x
Am a huge fan of Gro-bags and have been using it since I stopped swaddling DD at 5 months. You can buy them on Amazon, http://www.gro-store.co.uk/, www.kiddicare.co.uk or John Lewis. In summer I use 0.5 tog and winter 1.5 tog!
Oh thanks so much, that is really helpful. I have actually spotted a lovely Grobag on Amazon and hubby goes back to the UK next week so I will order 2 - a 0.5 tog and a 1.0 - and see how I get on.
All the advice is much appreciated. Esp about swaddling Sandfly and Green-ish. My head is spinning with all the newness! xxx But excited too! :)
Sorry to jump on board but I heard that new borns didn't use the sleeping bag and just slept in a baby grow and / or blanket..is that not the case?
Like sandfly, I swaddled the babies for the first few months. Most newborns sleep much better when they are swaddled and then move onto a sleeping bag from about 6 months.
The bags are considered better because they don't get kicked off but more importantly they're considered safer because a blanket can end up over the baby's face. My 2 year old has been - and still is - in sleeping bags since she was born and I LOVE them. So does she! She now asks to go into her bag.
To the OP, the one my little girl is currently in is 2.5 TOG and she wears thin PJs with long sleeves with no vest or anything like that underneath. You have to consider what the baby is wearing because that adds to the total warmth TOG. Even the nappy, apparently.
And our room temp is 20/21.
When she was a newborn, I always had her in a little cotton singlet and then she wore the one piece baby jumpsuits with the feet (sorry... brain is fried and words just not coming to me!) and she was in a 1.5 or a 2 TOG

I think there is a minimum age or size or something, but they hit it pretty quickly (or mine did).
I did swaddle to start off with; that was what the hospital did and both kids seemed to like it.
Thanks Jules,
I will err on the side of caution and get a couple, thanks for the advice x
Did anyone buy theirs here? Where was good to get them from? x
Definitely get a couple! If the budget stretches, a couple in each tog is perfect...when one needs a wash, you have a clean one on hand. They are so brilliant, you'll never want to put baby down without one! :)
i use 0.5 tog the most, then 1.0 (we dont make the AC too cold), i also have 2.5 for when we travel, and for the first time, used this year in the UAE!!! best thing you can ever get - if you buy grobag, it comes with a what to wear for each temp guide which i find spot on....
I second the grobag brand. They are award winning for safety and are great quality. We used the 0.5tog during the summer and the 1.0 tog in the Dubai winter. Jules is right...the guide that comes with each bag is fantastic. It tells you exactly how to dress baby to be safe and comfortable at your room temperature.

Yeah, good thinking both. At least with light you can always add clothes. Too hot is never good xxxx
I will get one of each for when I go home to Ireland. It doesn't get hot there. Ever. [url=http://www.graphicsgrotto.com/'> [img'>http://www.graphicsgrotto.com/emoticons/weather/images/emweather8.gif[/img'> [/url'>
I got two, a light one and a heavy. We didn't use blankets so had a heavier one for winter, lighter for summer. The ones with the holes in for seatbelts are handy for traveling (you can put the belts through so bubba can be snug in the bag and secure in the car seat).
Sorry if this has been done before but I'm a first-time mom and still clueless with just five weeks to go!
I want to get my hands on a couple of baby sleeping bags - don't care which brand, I'll probably order from the UK (unless someone knows of some great deals going ;D) but what is flummoxing me is which tog to go for...
Is 0.5 tog too light or is 2.5 tog too heavy? I figure I'll probably get most use out of a 1 tog but then I'm really not sure on that either!
If any girls out there can help from their own experience, it would be much appreciated xxxxx
