I tried for a six months lease a year ago and it was impossible to find!

So a six month lease in each name would be needed if such a thing were possible, six months in his name, six months in sponsor name for one to renew visa earlier than needed. Or one of them ren visa now before them move and that solves these problems for a couple of years. Six months leases are going to prove a bit tricky I think esp with the DEWA factor, but as you say if one renews now then they are good for two years at least, so that's an option.

Can you have 2 contracts for the same place? No, that would not be possible as only one tenant can be reside at a time by law.

Was worth a thought, not sure what they will do then other than getting wed. Thanks If they don't want to get wed then only way round is for one to have the contract is his name for the visa and the other to have the contract of their sponsor for the visa.

I did think it would raise questions, but offered to ask here as I know EW have good advice and hence asking here before anything is signed. Both work for different companies and have previously had leases in their own names now want to live together, maybe get married one day. If one used their sponsor/ company and the other had DEWA would that be a way round it? The start of the article seems to say that, but thinking that probably won't work. Random thought, If they were to get a six month lease in each others names, with one renewing visa early would that be a way round it. Trying to help a mate before I leave town. They would not be able to have the contract in one name and the DEWA in another as DEWA need the contract to open the account.

On behalfnof a friend. What happens if you and your OH are not married? Is it ok to have both names on the tenancy contract? Given the new rules they both need to be on the tenancy agreement as visas are due, bu coincidence, for renewal same month and same year, so they can't do one year each on the lease. Thanks Don't have both your names put on - it flags many questions up. You don't need an tenancy contract to get a UAE visa, only to sponsor a dependant. You do now since July they changed the rules and I was asked for mine when I renewed last month and I don't sponsor anyone. http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/it-s-official-tenancy-contract-must-for-visa-renewal-across-uae-2012-06-12-1.462747 edited by Di@DXB on 29/08/2012

If you don;t have a tenancy contract in your name I think they will accept the tenancy contract of your sponsor for your visa renewal, so that may be a way around it for you. I think you could possibly run into some trouble having your name on a rental contract if you are not married.

The fact that the tenancy contract was in my name not husbands didn't matter when he did our visas either.

Depends on whether you have to show your tenancy contract to work to get your allowance. DH has to show it with his name on it to get the money. I don't have to as it is built into my salary, with DH it is an extra. A tiny allowance but better than nothing. Thats the same situation we are in. My husband has to show his contract to get the allowance back. Husband had to also show the tenanncy contract to get our Housemaid sponosred too We don't get an allowance so for us not an issue. It wasn't a problem with sponsoring a maid. We've also sponsored a maid when tenancy contract has been in company's name.

If DH is sponsor, then I would do it in DH name - may make life easier down the track.

We are due to sign a new contract - does it really matter if it goes under my name or my husbands name? TIA!
