I checked in the pharmacies here in Dubai and they all offer just one brand, Cica-care - does this work? Any idea if there are any other brands available in Dubai? We used contratubex scargel on a knee surgery scar. Barely visible now. :)

Im trying another brand here called ScarF/X - it seems difficult to clean though. It is the longst one I can find. I did not realize they only last 3 weeks though,,,,

cleoExpatra..... If you could only see my nephews scars!! There came a point where the ER room staff were starting to raise eyebrows at my sister!! She had all three AND her husband in over a week long period!! LOL Mind you, this was in a ranching community and they were farm boys!! Needless to say they're tetnas shots were always up to date! Dont' be so hard on yourself! Little boys (and Girls!) will always have some sort of bump :-)

I know Skoki, believe me I have my own scar from an old wound (20 stitches in my forehead!) and honestly I've never obsessed about it, its just a part of me. But with my kid I'm just so guilt-ridden about it because he's just a child and I wish I had been tougher about him running around to avoid it! so anything I can do for him I want to try to do - crossing my fingers!

Ok, not to belittle the fact that it is a scar and 5 stitches, but at 4yrs old (healing properties are high!) just go and get some vitamin E capsules, poke capsule with a pin and squeeze the oil on the scar and rub in. I did this for a scar on my forehead (at 30yrs) and you can hardly see it. Plus its easier to apply and keep on a lil one. Just my opinion though. :-) edited by Skoki on 04/03/2013

It will help then, so long as she's not one of the people who can't use silicon (get some medical/pharmacist advice! lol) But i was really amazed and thrilled with how quickly the scar softened and faded. Mine was bad enough that it was pulling in so tight it was restricting movement in the joint, and that was reversed in days. Miracle stuff.

Thanks for the explanation, Aroha. It may be worth a try. Its on her back, so easy to cover, but she is very self conscious about it when she wears strappy dresses.

Its far more effective than bio oil, but silicon can have adverse reactions for some people. You can use it on older scars as well...I had a particuarly ugly ropey looking surgical scar, and the cica care worked really well, even though I didnt follow all the way through with the treatment. It's not something that you can put on for 24/7 right from the get go though...from memory you start off at 2 hours a day and build up at 2 hour increments until you have it on more or less all the time. You wash the strip in between use, and you get about 3 weeks from each patch. They don't stick on well, so I taped it in place, and started off using them in the evenings, working up to leaving them on at night while I slept. But that was because it was a very visible scar and putting a dressing of any kind on it just drew a lot of unwelcome attention. But that was just me, I was a bit sensitive about that particular wound. hth

Is this only for use on new scars/wounds? My daughter has a scar on her back from a mole removed a few years ago. Could she try the silicon sheets now to try to minimise it or is it too late? Bio oil was used originally but it is still quite a large visible scar. TIA

Yes, we left it on around the clock! The cica-care did not adhere as efficiently as the one the Plastic Surgeon put on, so we just replaced strips of it every couple of days when it looked like it was beginning to peel off. My DD was 4 also, the scar was very visible for a few months, so we continuously applied the contractubux daily, now 1 year later the scar is a thin white line.

oh thank you for posting! this is reassuring to hear - my 4 year old had 5 stitches on his lower cheek last week and will be taken out in a few days- we've been told to try silicone sheets to minimize the scar, and the only thing I've found is Cica-care. did you leave the Cica-care silicone sheet on all day or only at night? I will also ask about contratubux (sp) - thanks for the advice!

Yes, we used it. DD had a massive scar on her face, the Plastic Surgeon put some silicone cover on it (not sure if it was the cica-care) which lasted about 10 - 14 days before we needed to replace it, then we used Cica-care for another 4 weeks, after that we used Contratubex (sp?) scar cream for another several weeks. The scar is barely noticeable now, thankfully.
