Does anyone live in Rashidiya?

I mean, anyone on the forum :D.

We looked at a gorgeous villa there today but I don't know too much about the area. Is the traffic OK? Is it a nice area, nice and quiet and family-oriented? Is it fairly easy to get where you want to go in not too much time, and do you have the things you need on your doorstep?

Any feedback very much appreciated :).

Dubaicat how did you find a villa in rashidiya? They dont seem to advertise them at all. Garhoud is even more difficult to find. I found this one on Dubizzle. Let me see if I can find the link for you... Warqa 1 and 2 are just over the road from Mirdif, right? I know he'll only consider Mirdif as a last resort, as he's dead set on being closer to the beach and the 'centre' of Dubai, if you like.

Yes, you are right. DC, why don't you have your husband look at Warqa 1, 2, and 3? There are many more conveniences in that area and the roads are mainly done. Just looked outside the window and seen my "sandy road":) :) Main roads mainly done, sandy roads-streets are drivable. Have neighbours driving with +100 kmph on it.

Al Warqa'a 4, wer her husband was, is a bit remote, true, but the others, 1,2,and 3 are not and are more established. Is 8 min drive to Festival city, 5 min to MCC and 5 min to UpTown. The plus is that villas have huge gardens (plot sizes are 10-15,000 sqf) so more than suitable for dogs. I know, we have to giant dogs and Wilma the tortoise and wouldn't imagine living anywhere else. As for access to Down Town is easy, in 15 min I'm there, Deira is same same :)

Thanks ladies :). The villa was just before the Bin Sougat centre in a compound in a nice leafy part but sadly the garden is just too small :(. We were hoping it might be doable with the other great features making up for it, but it's just not practical with the dogs. I did like the area, though, so it's definitely still on our list! ETA I don't care at all that it's not an 'expat' area. The other areas I'm looking at are Al Badaa, Satwa and Garhoud so I'm definitely not after a Stepford Wives place :D. edited by DubaiCat on 19/05/2013 I know what you mean a garden for 2 dogs! I think an independent villa would better suit your requirements. Why don't you try the Al Warqa' area? Here are only independent villa, arabic style with huge gardens. Price wise is more than ok. edited by simoralu44 on 19/05/2013 Her husband came out to Warqa and said it was too far out. I agree with you, though. Warqa would have what you are looking for but it is about a 10 minute-drive from Warqa to Mirdif...

I do not live in Rashidiya, but know the area very well and drive through at least once a day. I would say that it is a busy thriving area rather than crowded. Their Is traffic, but rarely a traffic jam. As was previously mentioned, the proximity to so many malls makes this area a good choice. I cannot see how the airport free zone could really affect the traffic here. I say it would be a good choice.

I don't live there but had some local friends who lived there so went to the area evening time. It's very very crowded. There is a lot of traffic as you're not far from the airport free zones. And there is this tunnel, don't remember the name, gets busy too. This is a very misleading post. I have been a Rashidiya resident for five years now and love it. The traffic in the early evenings is Sharjah-bound and goes through Airport Tunnel. If you know the area well you would know what I'm talking about. Rashidiya will be on the side with many service roads leading into it and the Airport Tunnel congestion is all the way leading to Sharjah. As for inside Rashidiya itself, the only times I have experienced traffic is when Gitex and the like used to be held at the Airport exhibition (no longer the case as that has been moved to Dubai Convention Centre now). There is also always a busy atmosphere on the eves of the two eids as families are busy and out and about. I agree with Anon that it is not an expat-centric community as it's mostly inhabited by Emiratis so it might have a different feel to what Westerners are used to. It's literally 1 minute away from the Rashidiya metro station, 5 minutes to the airport, 5 minutes to Mirdif and MCC, and around 8 minutes drive to Festival City. There is a Spinneys in Bin Sougat centre, quite handy. Another Spinneys at Uptown and yet another smaller one somewhere inside Mirdif. I frequent Mirdif and Festival City for almost all things I need and I rarely venture out to the other side of Dubai. To conclude, I love it here :) Where in Rashidiya are you looking DubaiCat? edited by Coffeebean on 19/05/2013

Hi DC! I don't live in Rashidiya but I know it very well and I have to say that I disagree with Marroosh. I think that Rashidiya is very well-located and there is traffic but I don't think it is worse than in any other area of Dubai. I feel like Rashidiya is very close to everything because it has easy access to the main roads. If you live there, most of your family activities will be in Mirdif, which is not far away. Rashidiya is a town within itself so you can get things on your doorstep easily. The only drawback I would think for you would be that there aren't many Western expats living there so it's definitely not like the Springs or those compounds along the MBZ Road.
