7 week old sleep noises

since about 2 weeks old my DS makes the most amazing noises when he sleeps - they actually keep me awake because it often sounds like he's choking, being sick or grunting! Not only that he thrashes and flops about in the moses basket - which sways like it's a swing. When I get up to check he is fast asleep and is perfectly fine.

But this is what I am wondering;is it perfectly fine? I plan to video it and show it to his peadatrician next week but i wanted to know if any of you ladies experience the same thing with your little one. The other thing is that it keeps me awake because I am forever checking. Between 5.30am and 7.30am I was up at least 3 times every hour and I picked him up a few times just incase it was wind issues (which it wasn't) as he is very windy.

Also, not related but when he is sleeping and/or wakes he stretches for ages. He can spend a full ten minutes stretching; is this normal?

Thanks Plumie for the info - one more question, in one of your other threads you mentioned Cecile helped you with your LO sleep, can you give me some information on her? As i will be going back to work soon and need to have some type of sleep routine in place. Edited to add; NOT TO WORRY PLUMIE I'VE DONE A SEARCH ON CECILE - THX edited by CheekyG on 15/03/2011

Hi Plumie, which brand of video monitor do you have? mine is Safety 1st, which i had not thought to use yet!:\: but on practice the picture is grainy so wouldn't mind a vote for another brand - as it seems that DS may move to his own room soon ;) http://www.tomy.co.uk/products/digital-video-monitor-tdv450/?parent=887 Really happy with the quality, however like most video monitors the range is not that long! So works perfectly at night when it is next to the bed in arms reach ;) If I am downstairs, it works as far as the staircase, so I just rest it on the bottom step! Bought it at Babyshop.

Thanks ladies for your replies, but Meals & barbara19 do you not find that you get up more in the night to check on them because you are not sure if the noises are - standard, or that maybe they have been sick etc...? I just think that I'm up enough during the night now and if I were to put him in his own room - I would be up even more often as I cannot go back to sleep until I know that he is fine. Edited to add: congrats Barbara19 on your new addition :) edited by CheekyG on 14/03/2011 I'm too bl00dy tired to get up other than for feeds!!! In between his calls for feeds I'm catatonic/ passed-out! This is my 3rd tho and I learnt from my mistakes with my first two DS's - my sleep = my sanity! I've had a visitor here on and off for a few weeks and DS has been in with us and it's driven me mad!!! He takes about 30 mins to wake fully for a feed, but the sucking and pre-waking noises disturb me and I end up losing more than an hour or two extra sleep overnight (shattered!!!).

That's where my video monitor comes in super handy!!! If something is wrong with DD she will tell me - her voice will reach octaves that could wake the neighbors ;) Like adults, babies also doing the whole "settling" in when going to sleep! Nobody just climbs into bed and falls asleep straight away!? So the grunting, snorting, clearing of throat is all pretty normal, and often when they are going in and out of sleep cycles they will "settle" in again! I've never had to go in to DD's room, just a quick check on the monitor, and that's that! If I do wake during the night and I am "worried" about her, the monitor is clear as daylight and I can see her perfectly ;) The monitor is also set, to only go off if her voice reaches a certain volume. So it does not go off for every whimper, only when she really needs me ;)

My DD also did this and we had to put her in her own room at 6 weeks, we left her door open but gradually i learnt to sleep through it and only got up to feed her and the occasional check.

That's why my LO's never sleep in the same room as me!!! I cannot get any sleep with them next to me with their snorting and snuffling, farting and grunting... they're noisy little people! It's perfectly normal... Perhaps time to move your DS out into his own room? Totally agree here. My DD is 8 days old and she was put in her room since day one and it's the best thing for me. I get my sleep and she gets hers :)

:)My DD did the same and used to keep me awake, too. I asked the paed. and he said not to worry about it, it will stop. It did and from what I remember she did this sounds till she was about 9, 10 weeks. DD used to strech for ages ,too. Nothing to worry. I know how you feel. Every little thing DD used to do was sending me researching it.:)
