Need opinions on this School. I know it's got an Outstanding rating by KHDA but would appreciate if anyone could share their personal experience. Am considering enrolling my son in this School. Anything- good or not so good ...will be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, Any recent reviews on Wellington International? This thread is old, and overall I've heard good things about it, but any experienced mums here? Thanks! My children have been at WIS for nearly 10 years now. Eldest one started in yr 6, finished his IB last year May, DS2 is currrently in yr 12, started WIS in yr 4. Child no 3 started in yr 1, currently in yr. 8. So we've seen the whole school, every year group apart from FS. My youngest will be leaving WIS at the end of this academic year as I feel WIS is no longer the same, friendly, happy school that we started with. I do not like the atmosphere anymore, and am not too happy with the massive teacher turnover that seems to be happening every year now, not too mention the leadership team turnover. In the past 9 years we have had 4 different principals/CEO's. However, the teachers and the curriculum are very good, which is why it is such a shame that a lot of the good teachers leave so quickly. My DS2 who is currently in yr 12 (IB diploma) has some great teachers who are absolutely willing to go the extra step to help the students. My youngest, however, is not very strong academically and I feel the pressure on getting top results is getting too high, despite WIS being an all-inclusive school. The atmosphere for her is too stressful, and the class sizes do not help (at least 27 in a class). That being said, the achievement centre and all they do for children with learning difficulties is absolutely fabulous. I cannot comment on primary anymore as I only have children in Secondary.

Anybody any clue on wellington international waitlist this year. I am looking at Grade 1 and waiting for them to come back. They always say they have just closed on re-enrollments and will confirm if there are seats in next week. I am on this boat for past three weeks.

It was the 4th choice school for my son who needed a year 7 place. However it was the only school we got a place in. I must say I was very pleasantly proven wrong to have any negative views. The leadership team, form tutors, subject teaches have all been fantastic. My son has progressed a great deal academically. My only gripe is that they are not so strong in sports. Plus although it is a UK curriculum school only 20% are British. It changes to IB after GCSE so if wanting A levels we need to find another school. However overall we are very pleased and have now moved our younger two there as well. Both have settled well and are happy. Thanks bubby1234! Your feedback is very helpful :) DD would be starting FS2 next year and my main concern is academics and good staff support. We are going for a tour in November so hopefully that will help me decide too. Thanks :)

Thank you All for your views :-) Very thought provoking views. At present my son will start in FS2 but we would like him to be in a school which has secondary school option available. If I can ask another question- just for the sake of comparison (if that's possible) - how would you rank in order or preference the following : Wellington, EIS Jumeirah & DIA. Would really appreciate all views ...thnx :-)

yes I've sometimes heard of maths teachers playing classical music during classes. There's some link between maths and music supposedly.

I have 1 in in primary and 1 in secondary since the summer. Overall i think its a good school so far. Couple of niggles. Yesterday DD year 7 was talking about math class and how teacher lets them listen to ipods while they do there work!!!!! Needless to say she is now not allowed to bring ipod to school which is a shame for her as she listened to it on bus to and from school. Was thinking of taking my concerns about it to the school. She's in an advanced math class but come on thats crazy!!! There have been studies that have shown that listening to music whilst to mathematics actually helps with your concentration. My mathes teacher at school also encouraged us to listen to music whilst doing our work.

I have 3 at Wellington and we just moved there in September after 2 and a half years at another International school. This school leaves the last for dead! My daughters are very happy, learning and thriving. Im very active in the school and from what I feel its a fantastic school. I agree with Tillie's comments, I don't feel its too big. Also you may want to consider how long you will be here in the UAE as smaller schools like Wellington Primary may be great but if you are here for the long term you might need to think about schools that have Secondary as that is a huge issue. Kids come and go from the classes like they do at most schools in the UAE, its one of those things. No parent will ever be totally happy at whatever school their child attends, sometimes I think parents expectations are too high and they need to stop and look at the whole picture.

My kids are at Wellington, one in primary and one in secondary. Both are very happy and doing well academically. Both have made great progress already this year. There's a great atmosphere at the school and the admin staff have been great. I don't know of any class that has 30 kids in it, what year group is that? From what I know 27 is the maximum.

My DS and DD have been there for 3 years and are doing really well, theyre happy and we're happy. I cant comment on the senior school, but primary is great, theres a real sense of belonging, i certainly dont feel that its too big. Both of mine are excelling in many of the academics and they really enjoy the sporting elements that the school offers. All of the people I know there are also very happy. Its so difficult to judge based on individuals opinions as they will all differ greatly, and each child and parent will have a different experience to another. I have a couple of incredibly minor gripes, but certainly nothing to make a point of. I cant say that its better than any other though, as we've only ever been at Wellington.

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Withdrew my daughter after eighteen months, do some research on here but a lot of the threads did get deleted.

My son went to Wellington International for a year but quite frankly I felt he was just a number. I also believe they have raised their class numbers lately. My son is now at Wellington Primary where the class sizes are smaller and is thriving. The staff are amazing.
