What is happening to my babies sleep?!

DS has just turned 3 months old and I feel like all his sleep has gone backwards! He was having 2 x 2.5 hour naps during the day with a small one late afternoon. Now I struggle to get him to sleep for 1 x 2.5 hour nap. He will only sleep 30-40 mins in the morning, and his afternoon nap he will only take if we're out with the stroller, which will soon stop as it's too hot outside. Night time has never really been a problem, he's BF and did start to go through the night until he got a snuffly nose a few weeks ago. Now he's back to waking twice a night to feed which I'm fine with - but he now won't self settle! Screams the house down unless we pat and sush him. Whats going on?!

Joining this club :D Growth spurt, teething, ready for solids, learning/processing new skills, clingy/fussy all happening to my lovely DD, all at the same time ;) Repeat x 1000 - this too shall pass!!! Good luck ladies x Me too plumie!! I am sooooo tired! Big Grin Count me in too!! We were so impressed that DD was such a good sleeper right from the beginning really. But she's never been a great day-time napper! Recently the night sleeps have gone haywire with everything from waking every 2 hours to feed to last night deciding that midnight to almost 3am was play time... followed by a short nap, followed by play time again at 5am today... needless to say we're all zombies today :\: Guess I'll join in the chant... this too shall pass :D

Lots of us December mums just went through this with our 4 month olds. Google 4-month sleep regression. That plus teething = nightmare! DD was a 7am-7pm with 1 feed baby since 8 weeks old, then suddenly decided 3-5 am was playtime! It seems to have calmed down again now though, although like you we are still struggling with daytime naps. I am of the 'whatever works' camp, so if she needs me to rock her to sleep, im fine with that.

Babies change constantly especially up to 6 months which means their sleep patterns change. It is very frustrating when you think you've got a good routine going and then suddenly it all seems to go all over the place. Unless you are following a Gina Ford type routine, you just have to go with it. He might be starting teething or having a growth spurt. 3 months is a typical time for a growth spurt so he is needing more food and by the sounds of it, especially at night. My DD is approaching 3 months so I am sure we shall be going through this soon too! Sorry I can't be more help. edited by Pancake on 06/04/2011
