Hi,
My hair is starting to feel brittle and dry, especially in this heat and with the water. Can anyone recommend a good shampoo to use out here.

Thanks

The best shampoo is the one that does not contain any of these ingredients ■Propylparaben ■Parahydroxybenzoic acid ■Parahydroxybenzoate ■Methylparaben ■Ethylparaben ■Butylparaben ■Benzyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid ■Methyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid ■Ethyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid ■Propyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid ■Butyl-parahydroxybenzoic acid These synthetic hormone-disrupting chemicals are in shampoo preservatives and can be found even in products that claim to be ‘natural’ and ‘organic.’ Parabens have proven to disrupt the endocrine system, they mimic, disrupt or block the actions of your hormones and interfere with your body’s hormonal pathways. They are readily absorbed thru the skin especially under a hot shower when the skin pores are open. These estrogen mimicing chemicals can cause big problems including weight gain, fluid retention, depression as well as disrupting regulation of fertility, pregnancy, menstruation and cause weight gain. Avoid them as much as you can! so which Shampoo do you use? FM - I dont use any commericial brand as quite honestly even the so called organic ones have got some of these ingredients, I make my own organic shampoo.

The shampoo in the pink bottle by Kerastase made my head itchy. I wouldn't buy that one. I hear the Joyco - K pack is good. Aveda is good too.

Also, Argan oil is something I cannot live without!! It's amazinggg. =) Non-greasy so you use it right after you wash your hair...and ur all set to go. Makes the hair so soft n shiny.. I haven't heard of it. Where is it available? You find Argan Oil in Organic Cafe, quite expensive though You can get them at Carrefour for AED30. They come in a set of 3 tiny test-tube kind of bottles. At the shampoo section -I remember it being near the Mane N Tail olive oil shampoo on the bottom shelf.

I like the Label M Organic shampoo. Does this argan oil thing not make the hair look and feel greasy? Eww...can't imagine putting oil in my hair. No its non-greasy. It feels like using one of those hair-shine serums. :)

does anyone use Tresemme shampoo? have been reading about it a bit - is it any good? My hairdresser in the UK told me that it was not the quality shampoo it claims to be. Redken is definitely the way to go, I use have done for over a year now and my hair feels as good as it does in the UK.

Thanks Ladies for the advise :) I've been using the redken shampoo and conditioner and although its only been a week, my hair is starting to feel a lot better. I'm also looking to buy the water filter showers head from a company called Blu and they have a stall in Ibn Bututta. Now that I know where to buy Argan Oil from, with all these combinations, I'm hoping it will help my hair! I do normally use hair oil in my hair once a week. I find the best way, is to add the hair oil when not leaving the house and also leaving it in overnight and then washing it the next day, I find it usually helps. But I guess, in these climates, we need to do a bit more and try and cover my hair. Thank you all :)

I swear by Neutrogena Shampoos. Sadly they only have the T-gel shampoos available here, so I make sure to get my stock from London.

Good god at that list! I'm using a combo of Kerastase and Bed Head TIGI and they both have many of these ingredients - what are we supposed to do? Any suggestions of brands or we just hope greasy hair comes back in vogue :\:

Thats great, thanks for everyone's help. I have bought a bottle of Redken, so will be giving that a try :) If you have not done so already you will need to buy a bottle of Redkin conditioner the shampoo opens the hair follicle the conditioner seals the hair edited by tally-ho on 21/07/2011

The most important thing to do is[b'> keep your hair out of the sun.[/b'> Any salon brought shampoo will be better than those sold in supermarkets also you will need a conditioner for dry and damaged hair. As others have mentioned Moroccan oil is FANTASTIC it really does improve the condition of the hair and it stops your hair from frizzing in the heat.

Al Maya do a shower head which filters the water to make it better for your hair. You can remove your current shower head and clip this one on ( no drilling needed etc) i have very blond, fine hair and mine was falling out. I bought the shower head and use Redken or Kerastase shampoo and my hair is fine now. Just stay away from mass produced shop bought ones as my hairdresser told me they are full of soap!

Cheap and nice - Boots shampoo + conditioner (for dry/coloured hair I think) actually makes my very dry and brittle hair manageable and soft. Other one I use is Organic care range as is contains no sls, no petroleum products etc. Again quite cheap.

Use the Fekkai Protein FX hair mask. You'll find it in Sephora. As for shampoo, I like the Mane 'n Tail Olive Oil Shampoo. http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=15121/Protein_RX_Anti-Breakage_Treatment_Mask/Frederic_Fekkai/Treatments
