I have raved on here often enough about the wonders of Aramex Shop and Ship that I felt I should warn people so they don't suffer the same disappointment I have just undergone. I ordered printer ink cartridges from Amazon, which I have had delivered here before by Aramex, only to be told that since May 2011, these are on their forbidden list and can no longer be imported to Dubai.
Anyone know where you can get HP printer ink cartridges for Photosmart C5380 All-in-One here, because we've looked everywhere, which is why we ordered from Amazon in the first place..

Got a lot of cartridges from German Imaging Technologies- good service, excellent quality and they delivered 1-2 days after I ordered online. Would definitely try them as their prices are much cheaper than in any stores around here... http://www.gitdubai.com/ (Check under "products" to locate your printer/ toner)

For HP printer cartridges the best place I have found (after extensive research) is an Al Suwaidi printing shop on Sheikh Zayed Road, a couple of buildings down from Al Attar Business Tower, between Emirates Towers and Financial Center metro stations. They carry the most extensive range of HP cartridges and they also deliver but I can't recall the contact number currently. From what I understand they are an HP agent and could also possibly order cartridges for you even if they don't have them in stock.

Wasn't there an incident involving cargo planes and ink cartridges at Dubai airport? That would explain the ban. Yes, I understand that, only it's taken quite a long time to implement, and seems inconsistent. Also, only toner is included in SnS's T&C :(

Just a note on printing, I print everything, unless it's really important, as a "fast draft" - you select this option from "properties" in the print dialogue screen. I even reformat text, removing shading etc to save ink! Dh can't be bothered doing this when he prints and my cartridges last ages longer than his. I've a very simple hp printer in the play room that only prints and I hate buying cartridges as they cost nearly the same amount as the printer - as someone else mentioned. Is this the same all over the world or just here? <em>edited by A Rancher on 16/08/2011</em>

A little update. Strangest thing, only my order of HP cartridges from Amazon themselves got stopped. I've just received 3 others which were shipped as office supplies from a differently named Amazon subsidiary in Jersey.

I have a HP Photosmart C6283 All-in-one that I am willing to sell. About 2,5 years old and rarely used. Bought in DFC plug-ins. The reason to sell is because I hate that it complains that the ink level is low/ the cartridge has expired and refuses to print. I change the ink, expensive like ****, print my 3 pages, and by the time i need to print again, in a few weeks time, again it refuses and wants me to put in new ink. I hate that printer from the bottom of my heart. Bought a Samsung color laser instead, cannot print photos, but NEVER complains, awesome machine. I even have some leftover cartridges and lots of photo paper that i can give with it. [email protected] Ink is no.177, 1 black +5 colors separate. Sold in the UAE. edited by dentro on 10/08/2011 If you take the cartridges out and shake them and put them back in - usually sorts it out. Just to add on the ink printers giving 'ink level low' messages, we recently went looking for a printer and the sales guy at E-Max explained that ink printers give that message because the ink dries out within 1-2 weeks if not used and when you want to use it then it says there is no ink. Needless to say that we ended up getting the laser one ;)

I brought back loads of cheap cartridges for my HP Photosmart from UK. Was confused because the number was different but was assured in UK that was the number I needed. Fitted printer fine but wouldn't work as the printer was set to a region and the chip wouldn't work. It came up with a message 'wrong region' or something. I went on internet to find out how to reset it and ended up calling HP but after getting transferred many times I gave up and bought some in C4 again! Sometimes printers give out a message that there is no ink before it actually happens and you can override this. I did this with my epsom and HP laser at home and extended the life by quite a bit. You can find these override solutions on internet. New printer cartridges are not as full as the refills. They are usually filled for light use or something and don't last too long.

Simpleasabc, not 100% sure, but I think the Photosmart C5380 takes the same cartridges as our Photosmart C410, which we bought here in Dubai less than a couple of months ago. If this is the case, the cartridges are called HP364 in Europe, but are known as HP178 over here. We buy ours at our local Choithram, but they also stock them at Jackies and Geant. Good luck with your search!

Just go and browse. Carrefour and Geant are probably your best bets on price. The cheapest ones will likely be around 200 dhs or less. The cheapest HP all-in-one in the UK is about £26.

There's a wide range available at Carrefour, Geant, Jumbo, Sharaf... everywhere! All-in-ones have been the standard for years now, it's virtually impossible to find an inkjet printer that *just* prints.

Does anyone know if there is anything similar to the HP Photosmart All-in-One series for sale here in the UAE (doesn't have to be HP, but would like it to print from computer, copy, scan and print photos)? I have the HP Deskjet F2483 that does all that. HTH

Seems a bit excessive, since our printer is quite new and working fine, but I take your point.. DH's parents needed new ink cartridges, and it turned out that for literally about £20 more than the cost of the cartridges, they could have had a brand-new printer with better print quality and more features than their current one, which was only 2 years old. It's a deliberate policy by the manufacturers, unfortunately. They need people to keep buying new printers rather than just keep replacing the ink cartridges.

Don't be fooled - many of the HP cartridges are actually available here but for some reason they are given different numbers. This is certainly the case with ours. Your best bet, if you haven't done so already, is to take your cartridge with you into one of the office supplies specialist stores. They usually have a book showing all the different cartridges and their (local) numbers so that you can compare yours with their lists. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Isn't it often only a little bit more expensive to buy a whole new printer than to buy new ink cartridges? Seems a bit excessive, since our printer is quite new and working fine, but I take your point..

There's a list of banned products published by Aramex, but printer ink cartridges are not on it, though printer toner *is*. They say they updated the list in May but printer ink cartridges are still not mentioned. Muurtje, that would be why we can't find the right cartridges here. We've got friends coming over from Switzerland in October, I'll just have to hope they can bring us supplies in their suitcases. Until then, what do we do, though? PI, SnS suddenly stopped provided a service they had provided before, without any warning or notice, so I've paid out the best part of 100 squid for cartridges I need now and won't get. Obviously, I wouldn't have done that if SnS had let me know of the change in status.

Sorry no help re cartridges, except maybe to ask if someone could buy and bring for you in luggage. unless hand carrying them is also forbidden? Is there a published list of banned products?
