Spinney's, Choithram's, C4, etc. for dried yeast and, 'Yes', the shops will be open during Eid. edited by amelia on 04/11/2011

Crumpets are the same as English muffins if in England BUT if they are Scottish then they are flat. See the pics in this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crumpet#Scottish_crumpet Scottish crumpets are a bit more salty ( well there's a surprise! :D) SM - you are totally wrong...... crumpets are totally different to English muffiins. Muffins are similar to bread rolls - you peel them in half and toast them. Crumpets are all one and you pop them into the toaster. We always have crumpets in the bread bin and I agree with Tally Ho - scotch pancakes are delicious - especially lemon and raisin ones - often have one for my breakfast! another big favourite is malt loaf - love that for breakfast with a hot china mug of tea.

Speaking of yummy English breakfast stuff - have any eagle eyed northerners spotted potato cakes anywhere? Could really do with a hot, toasted, buttery potato cake. Mmmmmmm *salivating*

Park and shop sell both Try toasted English muffins with ...... 2 eggs (1 egg plus 2 egg whites) 1 cup milk 2 tbsps sugar 14 tsp cinnamon 4 english muffins butter (nonstick cooking spray) maple syrup (warm pure) 1 Whisk eggs in small bowl until frothy. Add milk, sugar and cinnamon. Whisk well. Transfer to shallow dish. (Can be made ahead and refrigerated, covered airtight, for as long as 3 days.). 2 To cook, open English muffins; place in milk mixture, cut-side down, for about 4 minutes. Turn and soak 1 minute more. 3 Heat greased nonstick skillet over medium heat. When hot, cook muffins, cut-side down, until browned, about 3 minutes. Turn, brown other side, about 3 minutes more. 4 Can be kept warm in 200 degree oven while cooking remaining muffins. Serve hot with warm maple syrup passed separately. Great on Christmas morning !

I make my own crumpets...mmmmmm. So delicious with lashings of hot butter and vegemite. I got the recipe from this blog ( just scroll down a little) http://ivynest.blogspot.com/search/label/food?updated-max=2011-09-22T08%3A56%3A00%2B10%3A00&max-results=20 Oooh, thank you, I got my crumpet rings from Amazon (and then saw them in Lakeland!) but never got round to making them. I haven't noticed any dried yeast here, though, anyone point me in the right direction? And for another stupid question, are shops open over the Eid holidays?

Sunblest fresh crumpets are available in Waitrose from time to time. At the Marina Mall they are usually in the fridge section near the mountain bread and wraps and at the Dubai Mall they were on the fridge end where they keep the refridgerated sweet muffins. From memory are about 14aed for 6. If you see them buy a couple of packets as they freeze and defrost well. They also sell their own brand crumpets in the freezer section near the Yorkshire puddings in both locations. I found them soggy when defrosted as if there were loads of ice particle inside the holes. I can't remember the cost as I only bought them the once.

Crumpets are sold in Spinneys-they are in the chillers. Hovis ones-altho I have always been disapointed when I bought some.. I bet Park n Shop would have hot x buns, they sell fruit loaf and sticky fruit buns. Wish M&S would ship over some cakes & buns each day... Lemon drizzle, Victoria Sponge etc... Percy ****-they now do gelatine free ones

Make your own - much nicer and you get to eat hot. I don’t think I could make them as nice as M&S and also I would have nothing to stuff my face with on the way home LOL

An english muffin is dense, like the thing you get at McDonalds with an EggMcMuffin. A crumpet is really light and has air bubbles big enough for teaspoons of butter, jam and clotted cream to drop down into. They are like heaven in your mouth and I hate you now for making me crave one so badly!!!

I've been recently reading a novel where they keep eating crumpets and it sounds delicious, but I was just wondering if they are any different from English muffins? I've eaten plenty of them in the States, but never had a crumpet before! :) edited by ytjones4 on 03/11/2011
