Hi All,

I've recently weaned myself off Cipralex after being diagnosed with depression back in May. Although Cipralex really worked for me, the side effects weren't great so have decided to find a more natural way to try and sustain a positive outlook. Along with my ongoing therapy, I would like to use St John's Wort. Does anyone know where I can find this in Dubai? Is it even sold here?

Alternatively if anyone has other suggestions for natural remedies to help with depression, I'd love to hear them.

Many thanks for your help.

Mrs B xx

You are very welcome, and keep the positive thinking up. I started my therapy as well and have a good feeling for this.

Thanks for your reply Nyranee - I really appreciate it :) I actually already see a counsellor who's brilliant. She helped me wean myself off the Cipralex and I've been free of it for about 2 months now. I'm doing OK, but I definitely need a little more help as I find the darkness comes on very easily now and it really takes an effort to pull myself out. Don't want to go back on the Cipralex as I worked so hard to get off it, so I'm hoping that whilst the St John's Wort kicks in, my therapist and pure determination to think positive will keep me going! Thanks again xx

Hello emmyblu, Please be aware that one of the contra-indications of taking St Johns Wort is to keep out of strong sunlight. It can cause permanent brown patches on your skin. Please read carefully before commiting.

You can buy it at pharmacies. I get mine at life pharmacy. But you should discuss the change in medicine with your doctor as St Johns Wort takes around 6 weeks to fully work and you surely don't want to be without medication during that time and not on two medications either. Also try to get councelling as medication alone is not the solution with depression.
