Hi.

Please give me some information on what is allowed.
I have read no Vitamin A, but it is in the Bio Oil i am using. Saliyic aid which is in my dermalogica products. I have started throwing products out, stressing and just need some reassurance.
Should i just use natural products maybe from Lush. Or i am just being paranoid first time Mum?

You can and should have some vit A in your diet just not megadoses like can be found in some multivitamins not intended for pregnant mums. I think salicylic acid via topical products would be absorbed in tiny amounts and not dangerous, just don't take for a headache. (panadol is your safest option) eggs and soft cheese are healthy foods in themselves and not at all bad for a fetus, unfortunately they can be sometimes be contaminated with things like salmonella and listeria and if you are unlucky enough to catch that your baby could be in danger which is why its often safer to avoid them, cook them well or find pasterised versions. Most people who eat them soft won't get sick but IMHO like m_king says, why take a risk on our babies behalf when its not that hard to give them up for a short time? In a perfect world you'd eat only organic food, never eat an artificial flavour, colour or preservative take no medicines and not use any chemicals on your body at all, but you do need to be realistic and just do the best you can. I'm pregnant with my second child at the moment and I do notice I'm not nearly so paranoid as I was first time around, sometimes I feel a bit guilty about that :(.

Don't worry yourself sick....just avoid the obvious things e.g. unpasterized dairy products, undercooked meat/fish/eggs, a couple of essential oils that supposedly can cause contractions (I don't recall which ones right now but if you do a quick search on google you'll find out easily, I think clove was one of them). I try to use as simple as possible products on my belly (e.g. Neal's Yard tummy balm as opposed to bio oil or mustela for example) but don't bother much otherwise. I also have my hair dyed and my doctor told me there is no risk whatsoever unless I have an open wound or something on my head in which case it's not advisable. All the best!

This is one of those times when you have to decide to what extent you want to take things. Personally, when I finally got pregnant after 8 cycles of IVF, I wasn't prepared to take even a 1 millionth of a % of risk. At least, not intentionally. And I figured, would it really kill me not to have x, y, or z for a few months? Not saying it wasn't tough!! Wanted DH to bring me a bottle of merlot and a couple of eggs with runny yolks to the drlivery room!! And I know I was perhaps OTT but that's what worked for me. PS: nothing wrong with yolks that are cooked hard, or with pasturised cheese. But studies have shown that all sorts of things can adversly affect a developping foetus. Doesn't mean it WILL happen. But it can. Just like not all smokers get lung cancer. Not a nice analogy but you get my point.

you're being paranoid first mum!! although that's normal - not a criticism I'd take all this "can't do this/can't do that" nonsense with a pinch of salt Most are old wives tales With all 4 of mine I have flown in an 3 tris, drunk wine, eaten cheese, had my hair coloured, exercised, eaten eggs, had my legs waxed and all the various other things I'd heard not to do. All kids so far seem to be perfectly healthy masshallah
