hi there - i have an 18 mo that we are taking on holiday to the UK. he has never slept with sheets, gro bags or doonas. he has always been one to wriggle around and change positions while sleeping but with the air con always set constant he's always been comfortable without covers, even if i do pull the doona over him whenever i check on him.
now that we are going to the UK in june with the weather more temperate and staying in a variety of hotels/ b and bs with no idea of heating/cooling, i'm concerned he'll be cold while sleeping.
just not sure i want to fork out for a gro bag if he's going to hate it.

wondering if anyone has had luck introducing a grobag to an older baby...or perhaps i should just layer him up in pjs and singlets etc?

TIA for advice

My LO is 18months and she loves her Grobag, infact wont sleep without it.Its a trigger that its bed time. Started using it cause she hates sleeping under blankets and kicks them off. So give it a try, you might be surprised.

You could be surprised what your LO might take to when you are traveling. Ours started in a grobag at 1 so we could put him in it on the plane and he was fine. Maybe borrow one from a friend for a few nights to try it? We also bought a peapod travel tent for him for traveling and didn't try it till we picked it up when we arrived in the UK. My LO NEVER sleeps out of his cot, and low and behold he loved it. Now his grobag is a trigger that it's bedtime. I must admit we tried cheaper bags to save a bit, but he got soo sweaty from the polyester lining. Good luck. Maybe just thicker PJs would also work for you?

Our LO is only 11 weeks old so i cant answer the question entirely but we have a gro bag and a sleeping bag from Mothercare, I think it's 1 or 1.5 tog. Based on some of the other posts below though... The mothercare one zips the opposite way to a gro bag so you could possibly get your LO into it and keep the feet open as a start. Worth a try, given the Ikea ones were recalled in Aus. I think we paid around 120 AED for it but I can't recall. Good luck.

I would think that most 18 months would hate to be put back into a gro bag...I know my 2 would have been horrified at that age. They both slept in full fleece pyjamas with feet in them the winter they were that age. with a singlet and full body length onesie underneath. Never got cold. All of my little ones started life in grobags...well, soon after birth anyway. ;) At some point with all of them we stopped using the grobags and were never able to start using them again. I can't see an 18 month old accepting one, especially if he already dislikes bedclothes. I'd also suggest stocking up on wamer pj's...and layers so you can dress according to each place you're trying to sleep. Be very careful going with the cheaper sleeping bags. Many of the IKEA ones were recalled in Australia due to safety issues.

You could always snuggle up together At story time , babe in gro bag and you in a sleeping bag. Tell him/her it's a magic snuggle bed or something that you think might work. Maybe just like his/her favourite character has, pile it on! Maybe if you get into a sleeping bag at afternoon nap time then your DH or helper could bring your LO in after they wake up and see you in yours and hopefully they will want to try yours out, but, oh dear it's too big! Look what I have here though! Ha ha!

You can pick up a sleeping bag from Ikea. They have a zipper in the middle in the front which goes from top to bottom, so if your LO is particularly wriggly, you can just let his legs free... Just make sure he has a footed pajama on. That way his upper body is always covered. I do that with my DS when he gets restless and is in his Ikea bag. I have a gro bag too which is amazing, but I can't let his legs free :(. Also, the Ikea bags are a bargain, so even if he doesn't use it, you won't mind that much :). HTH
