Hi everyone,

I am looking to change my car. I want to buy one straight from the showroom so that I have no hassle with the service/maintenance costs. Saw lots of car threads here. Some say that Japanese are the best here and I understand why. But I really want to venture out to something different. I really like Audis and BMWs. Looking to get either the Audi A1 or A5 or BMW 1 series.

Can anyone tell me if they purchased a car from any of these brands and if there has been any major issues. If there has been any major issues, are these normally covered in the service/maintenance contracts?

How is the general service at the garages etc..any feedback will really help me.

I have been an AGMC customer for over 12 yrs. Having driven 318, 320 and now X3 I can only say its a dream to drive a beemer. over a decade I have never had any mechanical faults ...only electrical fault I had with my 318 was window, whch was rectified with in hours. Since then never ever did I have any issues. Service centre is always busy...getting a good service adviser is bit of a hit or miss but the service done on my cars is always high standard.

thanks Emilyg - but in general are they high maintenance if new? i mean any major electrical or other issues? No, I don't think so. My dad has had his X5 for 2 years and hasn't had a single problem with it.

Had both a z3 and a 6 series bmw here, no issues with either. Am now newly driving an a5 cab, no issues either. Have to say the bmw idrive is slightly easier to use though than the audi equiv....you'll enjoy either im sure

I have had several BMW's both here and in the UK, 3201 and 5 and 7 series. The main thing I would say about them although I love BMW's is that they do better in Europe than here, never had electrical or ac issues in the UK yet here they seem to not fare so well in the dust and heat. Service wise have had some appalling service in the UK too. In fact my 320i went from the time it was brand new for each service at the proper time, only for us to discover a year later that although they had charged us for replacement parts of all kinds of fairly minor things they had not ever touched the car at all from the time we had it delivered new. Can you ever trust service centres anywhere really?

I have an Audi RS6 which I love to death. Always had it serviced at MTM in Al Quoz. Only issue I've ever had is with the air-con and this has only happened occasionally. Heard good reports on the A5. edited by Safiya Dafiya on 30/06/2012

Hi hansten I have a bmw 5 series (old one) and it's a really good car. BUT I don't think I will buy another one when I replace it as a) they are so expensive new and, most importantly, b) the service at AGMC is absolutely HORRENDOUS. Apologies for the caps but they are actually warranted here. All the other bmw drivers I know say the same thing. Sitting waiting in the queue at AGMC, a nice (and equally frustrated) British lady advised me to have my car serviced at Munich Motors instead. So that's what we did and so far we're happy with them. Having said that, the car is very easy to drive, comfortable and powerful. Good luck xx thanks Emilyg - but in general are they high maintenance if new? i mean any major electrical or other issues?
