Hi All

We're off to muscat soon (moving) and we are trying to de-clutter. Thought it would be good to have a garage sale to move a heap of things we haven't used in ages, quickly so we don't have to pack it (again!!!) - DH says we need a permit for a garage sale???
Know anything about it / ever done it?? Whats the process?

TIA

thanks all. I'm just about to pop our furniture items up on dubizzle and place the ad up there. I'll get posters out tomorrow and talk to the security guards. :) Yeah most of the stuff we are sell in old baby clothes for boys, my old maternaity clothes, some normal clothing and a few bits of odds and bobs - toys etc. We really aren't going to be asking much more than 20AED for most of the items. But furniture if I still have it I'll have a poster up of what we have and will allow serious buyers in to have a look (but fingers crossed I can move it through dubizzle) cheers!

Been there and got the T-shirt for this one. Don't think you need a permit for a one-off sale. What you do need is: effective marketing - lots of notices all over the place - supermarkets, schools, etc; somewhere secure to keep stuff until it's time for the sale; people to help you as there are always those who will casually walk off with stuff; prices clearly indicated on everything or better a Dh5 box, Dh10 box, etc, etc; lots of change and plastic bags as people tend not to bring any; and above all realistic expectations - everyone who comes will expect to pay next to nothing even for good stuff. In fact I would second the advice to sell anything worthwhile on Dubizzle.

You can probably post ads on dubizzle.

Never needed a permit in AR. Security guards are usually your first customers. Put notices on the supermarket boards, on your front fence if in a compound or community and on Dubizzle. edited by Cherry ripe on 29/12/2012
