Anyone have rabbits as pets? Do you keep them outdoors or indoors in the winter months? Where do they live when the weather gets hot? Are they a good option as a pet for a child? Where would we look at buying a hutch/run? Thanks for any info/advice.

Rabbit is cute but its very sensitive. Rabbits have strikingly distinctive personalities. They can be as playful and silly as puppies or kittens, as independent and fascinating as cats, or as loyal and openly affectionate as dogs. Rabbit can easily get sick due to weather conditions. instead of rabbit, i bought hamsters, they are very active and cute as well. lovely hamster!

We've had rabbits as pets. One we bought from a pet shop was not very friendly and often bit and scratched when held so we let her do her own thing. The other one was handed in at the vet and we gave her a home; much more docile and liked being held and stoked. I bought a special "run" for them so they could spend most of the day outside in winter and an hour or so in the morning and evening in summer. They liked to burrow though. Otherwise they were indoors. Most rabbit cages are a bit small so I used to leave the doors open so they could stretch their legs and run around but I put up a gate so they were confined to one room as they will chew whatever is in their way (electrical wires etc). Rabbits are very clean and house train themselves and always go back to the same spot in the cage. Rabbits are nice but a lot of children become bored with them to be honest as they don't interact very much. It's very sad to see a rabbit stuck in a small cage 24/7. We bought the cages in pet shops and the rabbit run from Tchibo - they don't normally stock them and we were lucky with that.
