The old tefal takes 40 mins , my mum has one, not sure about the new one. Philips takes 20-25 mins for 1kgs of fresh potatoes. I like it for samosa and kibbeh as those I can't oven fry them , with Tifal you can't fry samosa or kibbeh, they will end up mashed. Why can't you fry samosas with the Tefal? That is one of the reasons I got it! Should be able to...just remove the paddle....

CP and Anon, how long does the Tefal Actifry take to make a batch of french fries? Last time I checked, it took 40 min per batch, which is a bit longer than when I bake french fries from fresh raw potatoes in my fan oven. (I coat the potato pieces in veg oil and Ina Paarman's Potato Spice prior to baking.) That's the first thing we made today! 4 potatoes took 20 minutes. Thanks Anon! I'll bet your kids were super excited!

I think it's the Tefal that my Mum has and she loves it... Granted it does take forever for chips! Never used or seen the Phillips but by the sounds of it that's the better of the two? Might be worth investing

We have the Tefal Actifry, it works really well especially if you 'twice fry' the chips - they need so little oil and are really crisp. Only downer, they are very cumbersome and we store ours on a shelf in a storage room!
