We're in a big 2-bed apartment in JLT and our bill is 500 in winter and 1000 in summer on average. This includes AC which is always on (no district cooling in our building), the "housing fee" etc. We did actually have a ridiculously high bill in July or August of this year, over 2000, but then the next month our "balance" was negative and we didn't have to pay anything at all that month, so it seems they do correct it when you've paid too much.

They don't match but as I said, we lodged @ complaints, they sent engineers to look at the meter and we were told "everything in order Mam". It works by estimate Exactly what happened to my daughter, she moved into her own place bills of 200/300 dhs per month then a shocking one of over 1000, put in a complaint, sent engineer to check meter, turned meter off, never returned or explained what they had done, we contacted DEWA, no problems madam. no refund, grrrrrr - next and following months so far, bills have been back to 200/300 - only explanation is they rip us off :(

2 bed apartment. Free A/C. Approximately dhs550-575 per month. Most of it is 'Housing fee'. Our actual water and electricity usage is low. Same here.

We have a 3 bed in the greens and pay 400 per month for water/electricity. We use our dryer about once every 2 days, sometimes more if doing sheets.

Do you check that the metre readings on your bills relate to the readings on the actual metres for your property. It seems to vary month to month. The charges are estimated remotely I am told so there is little that can be done about it. Even over the summer when we weren't here, the bill was the same amount!!!!!! But do they ever correct the estimate? Surely in the end you should only pay for your actual consumption? No, not that I am aware. We have had some shocking bills 5000 -6000 AED and even when we shut EVERYTHING off during August, still got the same bill. There is no correction

It seems to vary month to month. In Dubai we had a bill of around 600 per month - 2 bed apt. Now living in Al Ain and have a 2bed villa and spend about 1500 per month!!! I am very careful, however, and turn off everything all the time. I think Dubai is cheaper. I have also lived in Sharjah and found the costs there also to be higher, also around 1500 per month. I can't seem to reduce it anymore even though I turn everything off. The charges are estimated remotely I am told so there is little that can be done about it. Even over the summer when we weren't here, the bill was the same amount!!!!!!

The elecricity and water bills are based on "estimates" of consumption rather than actual consumption. It's dishonest and completely wrong but that is just the way they operate at DEWA. For example, if your consumption was high and then all of a sudden you stopped doing certain things ( dryer, washer, watering), don't expect the bill to level out for several months.

Thanks for the replies ladies ...I live in business bay 2 br plus the maids room since september and (our A/C bill comes seperate ) last month my electricity bill was 2400/- and I have a school going kid and we use the washing machine and drier quite often ( at least 2 to 3 times a day ) I then stopped using the drier it stopped working and I didn't get anyone down to fix it thinking it is the drier which caused this ) then I got this Electricity bill now which is 1800/- I suspected it was the washer plus drier I have been using but still it is high cause I don't use the drier at all ...confused

I've just checked our last 7 DEWA invoices on-line. The electricity costs range from a low of 208 in March, to a high of 1846 in August, and average 995. We live in a 4-bed stand-alone villa and there are people living here who forget to turn the air-con and lights off when they go up to bed.

It depends where you live. Usually apartments have the airco included, which saves a lot off the bill. If you have a villa and irrigation it will add a lot to the bill as well.

You will have to be a bit more specific, as it really depends on apartment or villa, no. of bedrooms, pool, garden and location.

We average about 600/month. We live in a 3 bedroom apartment. A/C is not included in our bills. I do use the washer at least 2x a day. No drier. No dishwasher. The highest we've paid was in the summer - around 1000. edited by mumto2 on 25/11/2012
