Go to Dubai airport, T1, up the stairs on right hand side. Place is dead - 200aed and passport is all that is required. Was done in about 15 mins. Think they are airport staff so probably work 8am - 2.30pm so probably best leaving until tomorrow. I've been there in an evening, prob around 8-9pm and its always been open. :)

I got mine from the airport last Saturday about 5pm, so they were definitely open then. It literally took 10 minutes if that. I was soooo impressed! Now why can't Emirates ID be as easy?!

Ladies I went to the one at Dnata and the system was down today. Hi, Marti! Got the same problem confirmed by Dnata! What I still don't know is whether this is true in all of their branches - or just SZR. Okayyy. Naturalization Department, here we come. Jebel Ali Port, or, Burj Dubai Police Station - help. Anything in between those options? Good news is, that I was quoted AED 220 this time (card/person). Not AED 300, anyway. Dubai Media City’s Passport Center Financial Center, Dubai Internet City Anyone visited these recently?

Kaussie, I think its at Terminal1 Departures (someone pls correct me if im wrong and its arrivals!) You have to go up to the first floor then the E-gate desks are pretty obvious when you get up there - i think they're over to the right. Its quick and painless! :)

Would anyone be able to tell me where I go at the airport to apply for an egate card? We live in Deira, so this would be closest for me. TIA, Kaussie

Sorry, I am of no help re the below questions. I'm having so much fun with my e-gate card I'm not sure whether to post on this thread or the 'Overheard at Mc D's' thread!! Since last using it successfully at the end of last year, I have changed visa's (new job, so now have an Abu Dhabi visa), and then on top of that have a renewed passport. So, I have, a new visa in an expired passport + new passport + old e-gate card. Thought it might take some time to sort out so left buckets of time when we flew last month and visited the desk at the airport. Chap taps on his keyboard for 5 mins and hands all back to me saying, all is fine, proceed to e-gate / passport control. Get to e-gate control, access denied. I explain all to chap at the control point (ie that I HAD bothered to visit the previous desk to sort out card vs new visa, passport etc and enquired what needed to be done to my card to make sure it worked), chap at control taps on his keyboard for 5 mins and says, all is fine, system just not updated yet, you'll be fine on the way back in. 10 days later we land back at DXB (with our honeymoon glow), and smugly bypass the passport queues for e-gate control. Access denied :-( Chap taps on his keyboard for 10 mins, looks confused, taps for a few more mins, then asks if I have an Abu Dhabi visa ..... errrrr yes, as it states in my passport...... I then try to explain again re old passport + new visa + new passport + I had seen 2 e-gate officials 10 days ago who said my e-gate card would be fine ...... he looked confused, mentioned something about the fact I now have an AD visa, and my egate card is registered with my old passport and to visit one of the other e-gate offices to get it sorted. Arrrggghhhh!!! Not got round to it yet, can't bare the pain, but we fly again next month so I need to gather my patience and go ...... wonder if I'll get through control next time or whether I'll still be access denied!!! Sorry for the rant!! The thread brought it all back to me! NORMALLY, e-gate is a wonderful card, and yes, I hear that one day, they'll integrate it with the national ID card which will be nice in terms of not having to have quite so many slots in ones purse! I have similar probs. I got my e-gate card when i was on my own visa (Dubai) but have since transferred onto hubby's visa (Sharjah) so my e-gate card no-longer works. have been told a multitude of different things i need to do to get it sorted including going to Sharjah immigration!! No thanks! So now, I'm sneaky about it! I always travel with hubby, so he goes thru e-gate first, then i follow, try and use my card (which i know wont work!) then do the whole dizzy blonde "I dont understand why it isnt working!!" and with a bit of eyelash fluttering, one of the e-gate guys always takes pity and comes over to help me, finds it wont work then just stamps me through! Works like a charm every time and still takes far less time than standing in the queues!! :D

So you have to provide your own photo now? When we got our e-gate cards they took the photo themselves using a webcam sort of thing. Mind you, I do sometimes question the value of e-gate. It's great when you only have carry-on luggage, but just about every time we've had to pick up hold baggage, by the time our cases have arrived on the belt, we're surrounded by the people who had to queue up to show their passports... edited by edna.welthorpe on 12/07/2011 You don't have to take your own photo but I guess it helps if you have some decent photos. It's true that you end up waiting at the luggage conveyor belt but I find it lets me get to the toilet and get organised, phone DH etc while waiting. :)

Hi, Ranches Rose, where on SZR did you go? Was it DNATA or is there another office you can go to, because your way sounds the best and most practical for us (leaving on Friday, I think!).

I went yesterday to SZR, 220 dhs, and no they take your photo same as the driving licence and it took no more than 10 mins, quickest service I have ever been to in dubai!!! went in sat down, got the form, went and paid downstairs, went back up and the card was ready!! no more queues for me :-) did ask about the ID card and she looked at me as if I was stupid so presuming they havent worked that one out yet.. just need your passport and put some makeup on!! always look awful on those photos :-( I am sure thy do it on purpose! they show every blemish, line and black eye bag!...:(

Loopy Lotti, thank you for sharing! Smugly bypassing the queues, weren't you. ;) Oh no. Will be travelling with two passports as well - visa still valid in the otherwise old and annulled one. So let's see. Did not change the emirate, though. Might help? Once I get the AED 100 price difference sorted, seems the actual card acquisition is quite straight-forward a process.

I just got mine on Thursday so hopefully this info will be recent enough and help someone. I went to the DNATA on Sheik Zayed Rd near the Metropolitan Hotel. Easily parked on the street. Walked in main door and took escalator to first floor. There is a room called EGate kind if behind you as you ge off the escalator. I handed the lady a passport photo and my passport with a valid UAE residency stamp in it (issued in Ahu Dhabi if that helps anyone... ). She handed me back a form in Arabic and told me to go downstairs to the cashier right at th back on the building on the right hand side and pay 200aed. He gave me a receipt I took this back upstairs to the same lady who passed me my brand new Egate card complete with photo. The whole process took less than 10 minutes including me getting lost and asking for directions several times in the buidling. Easy peasy lemon squeezey! Great, thank you! Oh, you too were given the AED 200 option. Perplexing. Here's what we were told by Dnata, otherwise in a very clear and precise manner, of which I am very grateful for. [i'>Please find below the documents required to apply for the e-Gate card. 1 Original Passport 2 One passport size photograph 3 [b'>AED 300.00[/b'>[/i'> On the Government pages, however, it reads as follows. [i'>Criteria and Documents for eGate Card New eGate card holder’s presence Original passport (with at least 6 month’s validity). You must be either a UAE citizen or an expatriate holding a resident visa. Passport photograph Procedure and Fee Submit documents and do a finger-print ID. This procedure takes only about 5-10 minutes. [b'>Pay AED 200 per card.[/b'>[/i'> Go figure. But it's been a great thread! And very helpful. Thank you, ladies! :) ETA Oops! <em>edited by jophiel on 12/07/2011</em>

Yes it was the DNATA building, I got it just before the Easter holidays. :) Thank you! Oh, it was that recent. Not sure if their quotation was for one or two persons, as I introduced the both of us. Will find out. Otherwise, quite a markup in just 3 months!

I paid 200 at SZR. :) Thank you, Saltire! Oh, that's interesting. I've just been quoted AED 300 by Dnata. Hope you don't mind me asking, but where did you go to do this? Was it Dnata Travel Centre building at Sheikh Zayed Road, and, was it recently? We're not using any other service of theirs, wonder if that might reflect on the price... Or then, there was a considerable markup. ETA Additional q's! <em>edited by jophiel on 11/07/2011</em>

I just went for e-gate the other day, it is the service road after Metroplex Cinema (Metropolitan) on SZ Rd driving into Dubai. 2 buildings before the gas station. Btw it is also possible to get e-gate card without residence visa, but once you get your residence visa you need to get a new egate card so u would pay the lot again. Hi, Rebe! Did you pay AED 200 for this service? Or is it depending on which service provider one uses ([i'>Naturalization Departmen[/i'>t or [i'>DNATA[/i'>)? Anyone else had this done recently? http://www.dubai.ae/en.portal?topic,Article_000551,1,&_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=home TIA

As you can't seem to use the ID card for anything else at the moment, it does beg the question why would that be any different, lol. Indeed. Do let us know if you find out. Will do. :)

What's the egate card for, anyway? We've got our brand new Emirates ID cards and were thinking of getting egate cards. Is the theory that we can combine the two? Eventually you should be able to use your ID card for e-gate, although there is no time frame for this happening and its been in progress for well over a year already.

Hi, ladies! Anyone completed adding the e-gate service in your Emirates ID card? How quick and/or easy was it? I renewed my ID card last month and this service was still not available. Okayyy... So, we'll get the regular e-gate cards done then. ETA uncluttering <em>edited by jophiel on 12/07/2011</em>

LOL, I like your "in theory", says it all. :) I so hope that's not it, Saltire! I mean, as in "end of story". Would be really convenient to have it done like that. No one's ever tried it yet? Oh well. Guess we'll have some pioneering to do, then... Would really like to try it out. It does not appear that the service would have been discontinued, either... I hope.
