Yes but we didn't live in a country with temperatures of 30 - 40 degrees for most of the year. We didn't want to bath because it was too ****** COLD - no central heating and a " shower " - what was that ? A rubber hose that attached to the taps and always blew off with the water pressure! :D What era was this? 1920's? No - Scotland 1960s and 1970s ! :D Chester early 1970's also, we had an emersion heater, 4 kids and 2 adults, [b'>we shared bath water with a sibling ( i imagine the comments i will get on that)[/b'> due to the hot water running out and having to wait for it to fill up and heat up again Oh i miss the good old days Not from me Louise, I know exactly what you mean ;) We had an immersion heater as well. edited by Alismum on 21/02/2013 Yep, me too :-)

"Eeh, when you gotta go, you gotta go, better out than in" is a phrase that rings in my ears from childhood. This thread can only be described as a fascinating insight into peoples washing and toilet habits, each to their own, no hard and fast rules and as my fellow Yorkshiremen would say "There's nowt so queer as folk". :-)

My kids will poop anywhere, but one thing is for certain: they will not poop unless I am with them, so I am always the one to have to clean up afterwards...

For my children its not for the shower, not sure what it is, but they will never ever go to the toilet (for a big one! ;) other than home! Its just the way they have been since they were toddlers! Dont know why, its just they way they are. And no, I am not like that!

Cant even believe this thread has lasted this long with this many hits!! For us we all we all shower a minimum of once a day in the winter and upto 4 times each in summer. For anyone not showering everyday - minging.... even kids. Its the 1st thing my son does when he wakes... nothing worse than dirty bodies... yuck.

Awww, come on ladies. We all have different habits that an outsider might consider weird. That is what makes the world go round. Don't be so hard on CMM. I am sure her children are happy and well-rounded individuals.

Oh dear this has had me chuckling for days! CMM is the Jewish Mother of Dubai as this sounds exactly like my MIL: as a few of you have pointed out, such attitudes severely restrict the ability to do normal / enoyable stuff...travelling, going camping, backpacking. Imposing this on children (as my MIL tried to do and my DHs ex wife has tried to do) seems to me to be a form of control and a way of keeping children 'in the nest' and 'in the community' (clearly failed miserably in the case of my DH!). I do find that my MIL seems to enjoy talking about the things about her that most people would find VERY, VERY wierd....it seems like a from of attention seeking (although she'd get on like a house on fire with CMM!). Anyway must go....it's 4 hours since my last shower so must go and fumigate myself!

Can only assume the female members of CMM's family are well-equipped with these: http://www.shewee.com/pages/About-Shewee.html

CMM, you can't be serious! Do you mean you would never go hiking, never take long flights, never venture far from your home? Aren't your children going to believe (if they don't already) that bodily functions are somehow unnatural?

Honestly, that is the strangest thing I have ever heard. Do you actually take an entire top to bottom shower after pooping? What is you poop four times a day? That's four showers? I just dont get it. There are such things as toliet hoses you know edited by derien on 21/02/2013 I dont, but my kids do. They dont poop 4 X a day!!!

Sorry still fascinated by this shower after toilet nonsense. Your friends children strip off in school to go to the toilet? Or have they also been brought up being tied to the home toilet. You still haven't answered the questions about what you do on long business trips, flights, etc etc. Have you ever been on holiday to the UK because you may well find yourself staying somewhere with no water hose and no shower!!! What would you do then - not go for a week? seriously, it is normal for us. No water, no poop. we don't 'find' ourselves in bad situations like that. We have our own appt in London (with hoses and showers thanks) and anywhere else we travel to, we make sure in advance. [b'>We dont poop on planes, but obviously an emergency is different[/b'>. I daresay in an emergency [i'>everybody[/i'> poops.... :D

Well after all of these comments, I am the only one having 'weird' habits, apparently. All of that, just because we are clean. Wow. I cannot imagine sharing a toilet with other families, we don't even share with each other! lol you need to get off your high horse a little bit. Your children definitely learnt this from some adult at home, because no child I know spontaneously decided to shower after a no2. If you havent expressly asked this of them then you need to realise that they are picking up some seriously OCD habits from you. This isnt called 'just being clean' this is a disorder that can hamper a normal way of life that they are inheriting from you. Dont take offence, perhaps you can recognise that you are one of the only ones that are scrubbing to this degree and its NOT normal or neccessary. If I were you I'd take this as a parenting red flag and scale back a bit. edited by Dubai-Mum on 21/02/2013

Doesn't mean you "cleaner" because of your habits. I find them a bit strange, but hey if it works for you, who cares.

Why not discuss showers? Showers/baths are nécessité de la vie, they are like air and food, well, almost... Especially fresh air lol..

I cannot believe that 3 days, over 4000 views and 80 replies later you are still discussing showers ?

I agree with spongemonkey - Scotland in the 60's and 70's. No central heating either! My parents lived in a tenement flat until 1968 - my mum had 4 of us under 4 and they had shared toilet on the landing - this was shared by the inhabitants of the other 2 flats. I'm unsure of the washing arrangements as I was just little. Flats were condemned in 1968 and they moved to spanking new council house. My kids now are shocked that I didn't have a computer till after I'd left Uni and typed my thesis on a typewriter which meant any mistakes meant retyping the entire page. Can't imagine how they would react if i told them the toilet was outside and shared with other families LOL.

some comments on here are a bit harsh in my opinion, especially since there are clearly a number of different nationalities on this forum..also, everybody is different - one person could have one shower a week yet never whiff and another could struggle to keep the odour down with two showers a day...no-one has the right to say which is right or wrong, imo... Sorry but I do NOT believe for one minute that someone could live here, shower once a week and never " whiff" !
