This time of year once a day is enough for me. I like my shower in the evening before my Isha prayer and then sleep. I leave work in the morning, go to work, sit in an air conditioned office for the day. Maybe I sit outside for a bit but I don't go out for lunch. At 5 o'clock I go home, freshen up a bit, put on a clean shirt. Summer time is a different story. Then you pretty much need a shower anytime you step out of the house!

some comments on here are a bit harsh in my opinion, especially since there are clearly a number of different nationalities on this forum..also, everybody is different - one person could have one shower a week yet never whiff and another could struggle to keep the odour down with two showers a day...no-one has the right to say which is right or wrong, imo...

lolacat - agree with you. Dear knows where people get the time to shower 3 or 4 times a day not to mention all the laundry from wet towels. Ditto re water use and water being a precious commodity.

Oh my word - your poor children. You have obviously taught them it is unacceptable to do a No 2 unless there is a shower. . NO !! I did not teach them that! They have always done it themselves. Actually, 2 of my friends also have kids who strip off to do a no.2 then hop in the shower after. Fortunately I am not alone in my 'plain weird habits'. This is a learnt habit.

Yes but we didn't live in a country with temperatures of 30 - 40 degrees for most of the year. We didn't want to bath because it was too ****** COLD - no central heating and a " shower " - what was that ? A rubber hose that attached to the taps and always blew off with the water pressure! :D What era was this? 1920's?

Some of what gets posted never ceases to amaze one. Waiting to get home to go to the bathroom and then showing afterwards? Beyond comprehension. Showering 3 or 4 times a day? Are these houses where the ladies have little else to do and have maids running around after them 24 x 7! Now i know why there are sooo many posts about high DEWA bills!!!!!!!!! So much for respecting the environment and contributing to keeping water reserves protected. Having lived in countries where your tank was filled from the annual rainfall (very short season) and had to last you 6 months i am frugal with my house water usage. Unless for strick religious reason i just don't get some of this. Was there really a need to mention nationality with the person who smelt? Goodness I'm sure we can all list off nationalities who smell in various forms if asked! edited by Lolacat on 20/02/2013

And the spray that came out where they didn't seal properly went all over!

Oh lordy! I grew up in the late 50s and 60s and Friday was bath night. The rest of the week it was a strip wash. Can remember having a bath in gran's tin bath in front of the fire when I was a toddler! Our home from the early 60s until I married in 77 had a coal fire which heated the water so we couldn't afford to be careless with hot water. When I camp with my Guides it's a strip wash only and i have to smile at girls who turn up with hairdryers etc!! Just wonder where they are going to plug them in!! I think we've become far too fussy and obsessive with cleanliness in all things. As someone else has said, a bit of dirt does us no harm and can boost immunity. I still have the odd strip wash when I can't be gassed having a shower. :)

As for discussing the smelly mother and her smelly daughter with your child, I think that is a bit wrong, it is almost encouraging bullying! Why would you even need to ask your child what the smelly parent's child is like?! ! I did not discuss the smelly family with DS. We had been at a meeting, so he knew that I had met some new parents. I then casually mentioned that I sat next to 'so and so's Mom, do you know her, is she a friend of yours" kind of conversation. GOSH, how you are quick to judge me, at least I am not the honker. In fact, I told him that I would hope that he did not be mean to the smelly girl, which he reassured me he was not, he was just relaying what the kids have been saying.

I dread to think how bad my daughter's skin would get if I showered her twice a day. She has a very sensitive skin and gets eczemas easily, so showering her twice a day would dry her skin out. Once before bed is enough in my opinion. It off course depends on the kids age and the time of the year. But at the age of 3 and 5 , I really do not think they they need to shower/bath more than once in a warm climate... I know everyone has their own opinion and merits but showering your kids after a number 2 is just plain weird.

Well ladies, reading this has had me crying with laughter! Best bit has to be showering after going to the toilet! From experience, please encourage your children to go for a number 2 as and when they feel the need regardless of whether there is a shower for them to use, it will only lead to health issues later in life if they aren't regular! I don't have children....yet....but I am with the 'most nights' group! I wouldn't want my children to smell but I also wouldn't want them to be OCD about being clean and smelling of soap! I think if you wash the necessary areas every day, use deodrant and wear clean clothes then you shouldn't smell. As for discussing the smelly mother and her smelly daughter with your child, I think that is a bit wrong, it is almost encouraging bullying! Why would you even need to ask your child what the smelly parent's child is like?! Maybe you should have been an adult and pulled the lady to one side to let her know she was a bit whiffy! Sometimes people are literally immune to there own smell and you never know, she may have been horrified and changed her ways! Just do whatever suits your family life but think of the environment and don't make your kids OCD with cleanliness...a few germs are good for the immune system!

I hope she is. But I am not sure the other poster who makes her children bath morning and night is! At the risk of this going round in circles, I don't think there is anything wrong with an end and start of day shower - in fact I think that it is odd if you don't.

Hopefully they only get a bath or shower once a day, unless they have been swimming or playing in the sand. They (me) are already up early enough in the mornings, but what ever works for you.

I think CMM is pulling our collective leg here just to see how far it can go. And it is not even Thursday yet!

And for the lady who made the toilet comment - do you shower every time you go to the toilet? What happens if your kids need to go at school? Or going at work? My kids always shower after bathroom (not a wee), and they would never go toilet at school. What the heck does this mean???

Oh my word - your poor children. You have obviously taught them it is unacceptable to do a No 2 unless there is a shower. What happens if they have an upset stomach? They will never be able to travel except to places where they are able to shower when they want to go so that cuts out long flights, back packing, camping and lots of others. I dread to think how you forced your will on your children to only go at home as I cannot think how much pain and discomfort it would have caused my children to train them so severely.

Or if they want to spend all day shopping or doing touristy things on travels and need to "do the needful"... aren't you setting up unnecessary limitations for them? The call of nature can be pretty strong. One day they will need to go at school too. I was thinking the same :) Secret poos :) Nope! They don't go, but always have a pack of wipes if they had to, but they won't.....it must be a shower. But bathrooms have water to clean yourself with after using the bathroom. Why take a shower then? just habit;)

My husband and I were at a school meeting once, a few years ago and this lady sat on the chair next to me (a Brit) and she stank, really bad, and the next day I asked DS about this ladies daughter and if she was his friend....he replied that nobody likes her as she smells and never takes a shower.....like mother like daughter.

I have been here for a while and have come to the conclusion that some adults here consider two showers or more a day are sufficient to make them odourless during the hot summer months. Well it doesn't work!! One shower a day is more than adequate with the use of deoderant, and wearing cotton rather than nylon clothing! I suspect the same thought process follows for kids being showered or bathes twice a day. Huge waste of water in my opinion. Especially in the months when they have swimming 3 times a week at school so have showered then as well. Bordering in OCD in my opinion. And for the lady who made the toilet comment - do you shower every time you go to the toilet? What happens if your kids need to go at school? Or going at work?

My boys have a shower as soon as they get home from school. I used to do the shower before bedtime routine before but found that this works better for us as they are sweaty after playing in school all morning. On weekends its usually first thing after breakfast. Definitely once a day though!!
