Mine have a quick shower every night with a Bath on a friday if they want. I really don't understand showering am and pm, seems a frightful waste of water and time.

Think its the first I heard of this though, using a shower for having used the toilet! Watergate alert

Sunday was always bath night when I was growing up !! As a teen I remember arguments when I wanted a bath (we had no shower) on a Saturday night before I went out. I don't know if it was because of the cost or that it was habit to just have the one a week.. I don't think it's something that can be discussed fairly because every family will be different based on upbringing, circumstances and culture.. By the way, if you have an artificial football pitch at school your son will come home with black knees and legs every day..or at least mine does !!

Perhaps the fact that many homes eg.in the UK did not have any indoor plumbing other than one tap in the kitchen, had something to do with the once a week bath. The loo was also outside at the bottom of the yard ( outhouse ). One can only imagine the job a mother had with up to 10 kids to bath. Not everyone grew up with the luxury of a lovely bath/shower to use daily......( I sound like a Catherine Cookson novel now !!). Yes that is not the case in most homes today although try living in a drought stricken region and see how 2/3/4 showers a day goes down.....Not too well I can assure you. Each to their own I say. edited by Nomad on 20/02/2013

Alismum - Six of us (5 boys and moi) so it was the same -we only had a bath in the house -no shower and it worked off an immersion heater which took hours to heat. I love the expression 'most nights." I think that's what I'll start saying. It kind of covers a few bases LOL. My eldest is at an age where she's starting to shower most days (unless we're out really late somewhere) but my youngest is a bleeding nightmare and will do anything to avoid it then once she's finally in I can't get her out.....

This sounds all very strange to me, you use the bathroom every day, therefore you should shower every day! So what are the toilet hoses for then :)

When we were growing up we used to get a bath every Sun (as the only girl I used to get to go in the water first).I remember starting high school and having to plead with my mum to switch the hotwater on so that I could wash my hair midweek. We had no shower so it was done with a plastic cup over the sink. I think when girls go to high school peer pressure and the need to shower cos of hormones makes them start to shower every day. When younger I personally don't think it does them any harm not to shower every day and is prob better for them especially with the harshness of the water out here. Feefmick, same in our family, a bath once a week on a Sunday. There were 7 of us, so imagine 7 kids having a bath twice a day lol At the moment mine have a quick shower before bed 'most' school nights and a long bath on a weekend. edited by Alismum on 19/02/2013

Go with your gut feeling I say. In the summer - every couple of hours; in the winter once a day should be enough. I have also heard that if you shower often you should just wash with soap the essentials and use plenty of plain water on your arms, legs, back as too much soap could make the skin dry and itchy.

Beyond removing natural oils, being "too clean" actually hinders the immune system. There is a correlation between overly clean households and children with allergies and asthma. What children have BO anyway? Or are the kids here rolling around in dirt naked so that they have to bathe so often?

I'm sure I read somewhere that too many showers and baths are bad for your skin, particularly children's skins. Depletes the skin of its natural protective oils, or something. that what I wanted say, it happens when you are using shower get and shampoo with sulphates. Not really...I change the towels when I remember to / when they look dirty. To be truly honest I have no clue what DDs washing schedule is!

My youngest child will have a bath every morning before school. That way I am sure she will be dressed in school uniform instead of slouching on the couch in her pj's ;) and me trying to get her to change into her uniform. She'll lie in the bath for abt 10 mins, still dreaming away, but then wide awake after drying and putting clothes on :D My 2 elder boys will take a shower every morning.

everynight before they go to bed. In the morning, they wash their face with a wet towel after brushing their teeth to go off to school. edited by derien on 18/02/2013

Morning shower before goign to school as my DD needs to blow dry her thick mane...for us it was more of a cultural thing too as we can't pray with cleaning up( bath & shower) ...morning prayers are done after shower only. Further to that, going to school...best way to make sure poor kids are tortured in to being awake is....shower!

I remember 'bath and hair wash' day was once a week when my sister and I were little! Probably because hair washing was so traumatic :-) I can't remember how often we used to have a bath (don't think we had a shower) but it definitely wasn't every day, probably twice a week in addition to the hair wash bath! I would like to point out that I now shower every day!

That sounds like a lot of work! Mine have a bath before bed most days but sometimes we make do with just a cats lick & a promise. They always smell delicious to me.
