@ Mushroom. Email the email address that Loopy Lotti has posted. She will at least tell you what is happening. I am just in the middle of doing that now! Thanks!

I think I said this earlier, if you are not travelling to the UK, an emergency passport will NOT get you back into Dubai, you will have to add on a trip to the UK to get a passport there at one of their centres. And, they cancel your passport application in Dusseldorf, you have to re-apply ( and get all of your documents back from Dusseldorf ), and you have to pay again. So very costly and inconvenient, but then I guess missing a holiday or a flight to the UK is costly and inconvenient, which leaves you a bit in a no win situation! I got all this info from embassy, when I was in a similar situation and thought I would need an emergency passport. Thankfully, my came back after 4 weeks, but it seems to be worse now. I remember the panic well and I remember the costly phone calls who BTW are not up to date, cos the last time I called them, they told me that my passport had been printed and quality checked and was waiting to be dispatched, I then went to pick up the kids from school and when I got home, the passport had been delivered! edited by RebeccaS on 07/06/2011 Thanks RebeccaS. It is not a problem getting back into the country as we are away for 3 months, enough time to reissue and get the new passport to us. The british embassy told me that Dusseldorf will not cancel the process of the passport and will continue but that the emergency passport will only be valid for 1 trip. I'm sure you're probably right though as any excuse to get more money! It is going to be costly enough, without that as an added expense of reapplying. The thought of being stuck here until mid July just doesn't seem right.

I spoke to someone at their helpline late last night. I sent mine beginning of May, and travelling a week tomorrow. The helpline told me there was no problem with my passport and currently 'in process'. I explained our situation and he has put request in to speed up the delivery. However, he informed me to call again on Thursday if passport not received by then, as need to give UK Consulate here 5 days notice to arrange emergency passport if necessary. He sounded confident I would get passport back in time, but to call again for a more definite return date. No point me getting stressed, i've done all I can so far. I'll follow his advice and play by ear. Good luck, hopefully you will get it back in time. I am meant to be travelling on Monday and no sign of my daughters passport. The embassy told me they can arrange an emergency passport in a day but they need Dusseldorf to scan and email the documents to them directly... Easier said than done with a 3 day response to email timeline from UK to Dusseldorf!!!!

So I called the number again this morning and was told that it can take 6 weeks from when the credit card is debited!! I wish they would all, at least, give the same information each time. Last time they told us 2 weeks. Oh and it took all morning to find this information out as their systems were down for hours. Has anybody managed to get an emergency passport whilst their passport is being processed in Dusseldorf?

Snugs, yourself, me and SpeedQueen are in the same boat with our LO's passports expiring at the same time and travelling at the same time. The general consensus is that yes we can.... so fingers crossed!!!!!! but you cannot leave the uae in a boat... you still need to show your passport lol I think we established earlier on that it is only on *entering* the UAE that officials require a passport with at least 6 months remaining on it, the UK will accept UK citizens entering the country on an as yet unexpired passport with no problem.

[i'>We aim to process the new passport within four weeks from the date the fee is taken and the application contains all of the information we need[/i'> Thanks for the info BM - it's going to be really close to our travel date if there is a problem with the application! DH's stolen passport replacement took 10 days in total (with a photo correction!) in March!

What on earth has happened? We renewed in Feb 10days door to door with an error with the picture which had to be re-sent. and a page my hubby did not sign and he should have. We had excellent contact with them via email. I thought it was an amazing service. 3/4 months on and it all seems to have gone to pot :-((

My application is........................."waiting to be examined". And what exactly does that mean?!! This process isn't really inspiring confidence is it? First your cc is debited, then they claim its "not on the system" so you email some random you just happen to have the email of and she tells you .... well, I'm not quite sure what she's told you! They'd obviously examined it enough to remove the cash from your cc!

Loopy thanks for that email address. I emailed her all the details (PP number/name/DOB). She has come back asking for my full DOB to be able to search for the application (????). So I sent her the DOB (again!). Waiting........patiently. But at least something is happening! Suggest we all keep that email address up our sleeves. She'll be wondering why she is so popular all of a sudden....LOL! Will of course keep you all posted...on the Case Of The Vanished Passport. r you can write a novel about it its a brilliant title

yes you can get an egate card so it stops them stamping the little uae stamps but that doesnt help with getting visas for other countries that take up 1 page. Oh, yes, of course, if you're travelling to countries which require a new visa every time you go there on business, it soon mounts up. It used to be much easier when husbad was looking after a different patch :(

maybe they need to just add the time left on your passport to the new passport if you apply like really early...... 9 months may not be enough. lol They say they do that, in the Top Tip from the Dusseldorf Embassy: "You can renew your passport up to nine months before it expires, and we'll add any unused time onto your new passport. Remember - you can't travel without a valid passport. Don't leave it until the last minute!" yes i know that they will add 9 months on if done early etc, my hubs ran out of pages and we got a new passport last year the biggy one but he had something like 6 years left on it...... only got the extra 9 months! Oh, my goodness, I see what you mean, yes, that's a real pain. Husbad's got the same problem with his passport, it doesn't expire for 8 years but his job involves so much travelling, he needs a new one. At that point, his company should pay for renewal, now I think about it.. I saw something about using e-gate instead of your passport, on one of the websites, but it wasn't clear to me how that works? yes you can get an egate card so it stops them stamping the little uae stamps but that doesnt help with getting visas for other countries that take up 1 page.

Umm....so DD's passport expires in December and we are just about to send it off for renewal before we fly home in August as I was under the impression she needed to have at least 6 months left on it for international travel. Will we get it back in time??? I might be wrong, but I should think she can leave the UAE on her current one, and enter the UK on it. Then you could do a fast renewal as mentioned elsewhere, when you're in the UK and she can get a tourist visa when she comes back again, or else you keep her old passport with the residence visa in it? (This is just a suggestion, have no idea if it's viable). Otherwise, send the application off via courier immediately, including a covering letter explaining your travel dates and asking that they work quickly. It might work. Anyhow, you've got nearly 2 months, so it ought to be all right, maybe just keep an eye on it and keep chasing, using that disgustingly expensive phone-line to keep track.. yeh you can go back to your home country even if the passport has expired its whether the airlines notice or let you out. i have tested that theory before!!!

:( Was looking forward to getting my wellies on. And showing DS what a sheep is. And a highland coo. :( Worse case sceniro the BE here can give you an emergency passport to exit, but think you are over reacting you are talking about the Germans here the most efficient race on earth! That's the whole point, it *used* to be efficient until the process got moved to the UK on 1st April :) No joke :)

PS *actually* the website did say it would take 4 weeks maximum. When I applied. And I had left at least 9 weeks before travel date. BM, how long has it been since you applied? I'm worried about my application too!
