Oh no, I've just read this thread and am now really panicking. I sent my new baby's passport off on the 17th May, the passport office in Dusseldorf received it on the 19th May, our credit card was debited on the 30th May and we travel next Monday (the 13th June). Is there ANY chance whatsoever we are going to get the passport back? Is there anybody out there who has got there's back in under 4 weeks? I did it this way cos everybody was telling me they got theirs back in 10 days/2 weeks. It looks like it's a busy time a year presumably?...... Arrrgggg..... Does anybody know if there is another way to leave the country with a newborn without getting their passport? I know there is a special exit pass you can get but I believe this is only relevant for UK travel? Can anybody help because after reading this thread I'm presuming there is no way we are going to get my baby's passport back next week.

Mover & Sheikha ..... 6 months!!!??? My god how on earth can the SA authorities justify that? A month is about 3 weeks too long for us Brits!! This time last year through until Xmas I was travelling once a month with work ...... how would that work for a Saffa with a passport needing renewal? I know! A friend has put her DD's passport in, expecting it to take 2 months. She put it in in pril and is expecting it in october. It's a shocker. They are stuck here for the summer. That's totally mental and my sympathies are with you and your fellow Saffa's!! In fact I have an SA mate here who had triplets 8 months ago ...... must remember to ask them how they are getting on re registering the LO's!

This time last year through until Xmas I was travelling once a month with work ...... how would that work for a Saffa with a passport needing renewal? I know! A friend has put her DD's passport in, expecting it to take 2 months. She put it in in pril and is expecting it in october. It's a shocker. They are stuck here for the summer.

No, you have time. I sent mine on Thurs 28th April I had a txt notification from DHL 4 days later to inform that my doc had been received. Then just over a week later on Weds 11th May the funds were deducted from my account. It was the following 2 weeks that did my head in with no news, website says dont even bother calling until the month is up as they'll just ask you to call back once it's been gone a full four weeks ......... agggghhhh! I called on the 4th week to be told all is fine and it's on it's way, I received it 4 days later which ='d 4 wks + 4 days. You have nearly 11 weeks!!! It'll be fine!!!! What was really worrying me though was if it got to 4 weeks and I phoned and THEN they said there was a problem. Luckily not but the lack of comms is infuriating!!!!

Don't Panic!!! Mine took three weeks and four days, got it back last week. By the way what I noticed is that they don't ring you before delivery, they just turn up. Thankfully I was in.

Apart from the cost of the new passport and its delivery abroad, what really gets me is how you have to call a very expensive line in London (so, not even the place where your passport renewal is being dealt with) to find out what's going on and you have to give your cc number immediately so they charge you for their services, not just the call. That's what happened to me, anyhow, when I was trying to get one urgently delivered from Paris before we left Switzerland. Nightmare! In the end, cos I'd made a fuss and paid to DHL it there and back, it got turned around in 5 working days..

Mine finally arrived today, having taken exactly 4 weeks, 4 days + GBP 174 (for passport & courier fees) + around GBP 10 on the ****** phone call + a BUCKET load of stress waiting for it not knowing what was going on!! I reckon it must be like giving birth though .... the pain is soon forgotten now I have my new lil red book in my paws!! Thank god I don't have to do it again for another 10 years! I have to agree though, it really is utterly ridiculous that in this day and age it takes over a month, costs a fortune, and they cannot even keep you up to speed with what's going on? Honestly!! I hope everyone else's arrive soon. x

We are travelling on 29th June and I still need an OZ visa put in If you're on a UK passport travelling to Australia for either business or tourism you can just apply online for an eVisitor authority to travel. Most of the time they're granted more-or-less in seconds, or if they decide to check your application more thoroughly, within 2-4 days. You do the whole thing online and they just email you a confirmation. No need to get anything physically stamped into your passport. Any road up, your passport will be with you within a few days and you've still got about 7 weeks before you travel! No reason to stress about it, surely?

I DHL'd my passport to Germany on 17th April, phoned them 2 weeks ago to be told that the photo was not good enough and to send more, another 150aed later and they would do it in 10 days. That was 2 weeks ago, so I phoned yesterday ended up in tears as the lady told me it would be another 4 weeks but she would get it put through speedy but would get someone to phone me today. The man from the Dusseldorf office phoned me this morning to tell me that it had been dispatched yesterday. Overall has cost me over £200 for this thing! We are travelling on 29th June and I still need an OZ visa put in. Overall has taken 6 weeks. Dont worry tell them that you need it urgently and they will do it for you

Britain is just ridiculous with the time and cost of getting a new passport - the new processing centre takes ages despite us paying double the fees that you pay in the UK and despite charging double they have the nerve to make you pay for a premium rate call just to find out what is going on - DISGUSTING!!! I know someone whose passport has been gone for 5 weeks now and has spent over £20 on 2 phone class to find out what is going on

Please do not panic, i just went through the same thing, from the time the credit card was debited it will take 11-14 working days. it will come via dhl, my daughters arrived yesterday on the 14 day mark. i know its tough but really they would have contacted you, they did me, if something was wrong. hope this helps.
