We're actually more than people's accents, making fun of the silly rules these people are told to operate by - you can't give an office number, only a cell, to order KFC? What logic is there in that? What use is your office number if you've popped out for a fag and the delivery man needs directions ? What use is my mobile if etisalat decide to call at that exact same time trying to sell me an upgrade on my tv channels AGAIN!

Perhaps I've grown tired of giving an arm and a leg to Etisalat every month? if you can't afford a mobile then you can't afford to get your junk food delivered !!! LOL !! thought you said you were going to be quiet on this???

I don't think it's racism at all. Just a bit of fun. I would more than welcome a thread on the filipina's and indian's taking the mickey out of us westerners, which they do by the way and it's hilarious! Ditto! Just a bit of fun ... if you can't laugh at the crazy things that happen in life ... But it's not "things", it's "people"... What in particular are you objecting to? Better to remove particular posts, no, than an entire thread that has a lot of great history? Nowt specific as i don't read it often - i just don't see the humour in making fun of ppl who are living and working in a foreign country and making a better job of communicating than i would in their countries... i'm clearly swimming against the tide on this one (nowt new lol) so i'll shut up... As you were......

i didnt really see many posts making fun of their accents, most posts talk about a lack of common sense in CS.... Even then I think it would be ok to talk about at least some of the "accents" given how Filipinos tend to believe they have a great accent; "snuck", "chokolaait" and "pipty" notwithstanding :)

Is it just me that thinks this thread is bordering on racism? You're not the only one. Though this thread is milder. Part I was really bad.

When I travel, I often find mysef in embarrassing situations due to my lack of understanding and I am always the first to laugh at myself (as long as noone has been offended/come to harm by my actions!)

Yesterday in Al Barsha I was accosted by a police man when I got out of my car. He had a problem with where I parked my car. Which would be fair enough if I hadn't double/treble checked that there were NO no parking signs and NO road markings on the road plus it wasn't blocking interfering with anyone. He said I wasn't allowed to park there but I could park in the bus stop further along the road! The policeman was really nice and I think he was trying to be helpful. So I asked him a couple of times to clarify that I am not allowed to park on the road where there is NO no parking signs but I am allowed to park in a bus stop. He seemed chuffed that I understood and said he would help guide me to park in the bus stop. Some people might have got annoyed at this logic but it really did make me smile. Ladies if your ever stuck for a parking space use a bus stop :) p.s I thanked him for keeping me right but found somewhere else to park.

Is it just me that thinks this thread is bordering on racism? The witches are quick to make fun of philipino and Indian accents, but not a single stab at how difficult it probably is to understand some western accents. I don't know whether any of you have heard the rather 'public safety announcements' or whatever they call them on the radio which tell you that if you put your food in the same carrier bag as your shampoo then you will get food poisoning? Well we were in Waitrose last week and I am not fussy about which items share bags, I just chuck everything in as quickly as possible. So the girl on the till keeps looking over at me and seems to be getting increasingly agitated, then she spots me putting a (sealed) bag of cucumbers in the same bag as a (sealed) box of washing powder it all gets a bit too much and she tells me that I can't put food and laundry items together, I just laugh it off and say I don't mind but she isn't having it and launches herself over to where my bag is, snatches the cucumbers out and puts them in a separate bag - I didn't quite know what to think! Clearly they take food safety very seriously! It's certainly put me off packing my own bags in the supermarket :)
