Long story short..hubby left his car outside on the street...admittedly in front of the garden gate.
He is out of the country and has his keys with him...no spare here...
Neighbour is threatening to call police ...

Does anyone know the ins and outs of this...it is not blocking any driveways or access.

Thankfully I have not had any more irate visits from her and the car has no more stupid notes stuck to the windscreen-oh I forgot to mention that she had done that too!

I hope you've sorted this silly woman out now OP! I've found many people get extremely overprotective with the public road immediately outside where they live even if parking is not at a premium in the area!

Thanks for all the input ladies... was beginning to think I was crazy for thinking the road was a sensible place to park a car. Will let you know if there are any developments but have so far heard no more. Trying not to inflame the situation with any gallic swear words- but not going to go get a key to move the car unless I am told to by the police. Why do people become soooo rude here? Is there some kind of airbourne virus that attacks them once they land in Dubai. If they tried it their home countries they would be told to BEEP the BEEP up Sooo true!

SM-French Enough said then :D Personally in that case, I wouldn't bother..if she had been Emirati I might have thought about it as we know we are not all equal here! Totally agree with the above! Who does she think she is? edited by Josephinie on 24/02/2013 edited by Josephinie on 24/02/2013

The missing point here which would shed further light on this is what nationality is she? This is the answer to whether you comply or not. If she is local, work out how to get the car moved, if she is any other nationality, call the police and explain your neighbour Kees telling you to move your car off a public road. Exactly but I would not aggravate it by calling the police........

That's interesting, TopOfTheWorld - and seems to be different from what was experienced by posters on the other thread.. I guess it's normal? No one complains, everyone's "happy" and things continue on as it is... despite the Community Rules.

But if it is a part of her property, you need to find out now. Anyway, worst case is car is towed and a fine. Not like your DH will be jailed or anything.

Definitely a pavement. Will go get a photo tho good idea. Not going to go to his office, she can go whistle...might have felt differently had she not felt it her place to order me around... Manners cost nowt and if she had asked nicely perhaps you could of set her straight however going in guns blazing never works and generally gets people backs up Threatening you with the Police!!!! there was an article in the newspaper about people calling the police for ridiculous things and this is one of them :-)

This is the thread I was thinking of: http://www.expatwoman.com/Oman/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=188879 Emaar community rules for AR (assume that it's not much different to their other developments?): 4.2. Parking 4.2.1. Residents and their guests must use their car ports (garages) as the primary location for parking their vehicles. Car ports shall not be used for storage of any goods and/or materials therein, nor use any portion of the car port for a workshop or other use if such storage or use would prevent the homeowner from parking the required number of vehicles that the car port was intended. 4.2.2. If necessary, vehicles may be temporarily parked for a maximum of four (4) hours on the curb side of the street but shall not block access to neighbour’s residence. Violators will be cited, fined, clamped, or have their vehicles towed away at the vehicle owner’s expense. 4.2.3. Parking on the pavements or gardens or any lawn area is strictly prohibited. Violating vehicles will be towed away at the vehicle owner’s expense. 4.2.4. No overnight parking of any unauthorized motor vehicle – as defined by Dubai Police as fit for use on the public roads – shall be allowed on any street within the Master Community, unless approved in advance by the Community Manager. 4.2.5. Oversized vehicles may not be parked on a street with the exception of delivery and removal vehicles while performing services for Residents. An oversized vehicle is deemed to be any vehicle that does not fit into a residential unit’s carport or driveway. 4.2.6. No dune buggy, water craft, water craft trailer, truck, recreational vehicle, mobile home, motor home, van or camper shell which is detached from a vehicle shall be parked within any private street or alley or anywhere else within the Master Community Common Areas, unless for a temporary period and upon express approval from the Community Manager. 4.2.7. No inoperative vehicles may be parked so that they will be visible from a neighbouring property or from streets or access roads. 4.2.8. No motor vehicle or trailer of any type shall be constructed, reconstructed or repaired in the Master Community in such a manner as to be visible from a neighbouring property. 4.2.9. Owners and Residents are responsible to see that their guests and families and employees obey these parking Rules. 4.2.10. Vehicles are not to be parked in a handicapped parking space without a handicap placard or similar authorization. 4.2.11. Vehicles are not to be parked in a manner which interferes with any entrance to or exit from either the Community or any residence therein. 4.2.12. Street parking spaces and any unassigned parking spaces are not reserved by any particular Unit. 4.2.13. No dismantled or wrecked vehicle or equipment shall be parked, stored or deposited within the Community. 4.2.14. No trailer, truck, boat or recreational vehicle shall be used as a living area within the Community. 4.2.15. Violations to parking rules will be reported to the Local Authorities, at the discretion of the Community Manager. etc, etc...

wow, what a terrible neighbour you have! Gosh, doesn't sound like a big deal to me, and I think as another poster said, she's just trying to bully you. It would bother me if someone parked outside my villa day in and day out - (akin to flying on a plane when people put their excess carry-ons in the bin above MY seat - therefore making me find some other bin to put my carry-ons in) - but goodness, on a temporary basis? and to 'request' the car be moved in such an ill mannered way? Shame on her! Let's hope she is an EW member and reads this! edited by souqcrawler on 24/02/2013

I just have a slight concern that I seem to remember having read somewhere that people have been fined for parking a car on the road for any length of time, and on the pavement for longer than 3 or 4 hours, in Emaar communities. No idea if this is correct, or if it applies anywhere else.

For the sake of neighborly curtesy, why not just get the keys from the office and move it? Why should she, why can her neighbour not be courteous and park her cars in the garage? This is bullying tactics and a waste of police time I would tell her to take a running jump

are other cars parked on the road? I think your neighbour sounds like a twit to be honest. She does not want to park her 3 cars in the garage. She does not want to use her own laneway but she wants to use the public road to park her cars. She is being nasty about it. Take the pictures and ask the RTA about parking on that street. If the car is on the road and not blocking access to anything other than being in front of her villa then wait until your husband comes home and let him deal with her.

Before it gets towed or anything else happens, can you take a photo (clearly showing position) of the car where it is located right now? It would be best. We had issues with people parking against out back wall, trying to shade their cars, but we have now solved that issue by planting palm trees along that stretch. It is hard to say sometimes how much land belongs to a house. Ours has no pavement so it is up to the edge of the road. edited by CallMeMaybe on 24/02/2013

She should park her cars in her garage not her driveway, that will solve the problem. Who says she has the right to that piece of road to park on anyway? Mind you, you might find it's not legal for either of you to have a car parked on the road for longer than a few hours at a time..

it is not blocking anything ...she has told me she needs the space as she has three cars and does not park inside her garage...two are on her driveway currently side by side. Spare keys are at the office...she told me to phone the office and tell them to send someone to move the car....I said no,I would not do that...which is when she said she would phone the police and get them to move it!It is the first time in three years he has parked there. I really cannot be bothered with this nonsense today but obviously do not want to have a problem with the police.
