My husband has suffered from this for years & the constant leg shaking at night drove us both nuts. He was refered to a neurologist at home in Australia and was prescribed Sifrol. You can buy it over the counter in pharmacies here & worked really well for him. Can you advise any pharmacy where you have purchased this? I have called a few today and was advised i need a perscription by many of them. TIA Hi I have had RLS for many years now, saw many doctors and I have been on 2 medications one of them is Sifrol, you can buy it in dubai without a prescription, I have bought it in the pharmacy near choitram um suqueim, the one in oasis centre and the one in park and shop. If you feel like a chat re RLS send me your number edited by lannoun on 20/05/2013

Hi guys-this is my first post! I have had RLS on/off for years and I have been prescribed Lyrica for the pain-it has helped a lot-pretty much 100%. It makes you a bit sleepy so I take it before I go to bed....I would love to know if this works! Hey, i had the Calcium and the tonic last night and there was a massive improvment but not 100% I'm going to stick with it longer, my body may need to get used to it and then be 100% better (can only hope eh?!) I have been given lots of ideas from this post, thank you for your input also :)

My husband went to get me the Magnesium today and was advised it couldn't be bought on it's own. He was advised to buy a calcium supplement which has magnesium in it, will this be any good? Have the tonic too but no G to go with it :( Sorry, but rubbish, I buy high-potency magnesium 500mg regularly (Puritan's Pride brand). I suggest you try somewhere else if you really want to give it a go ... I thought it was a load of bull what she had said too, will try it anyway since i have nothing for tonight now and could do with a good nights sleep. I will be sure to try somewhere else until i do get it if not. Thanks for the advice.

If you are pregnant, maybe take advice before drinking tonic water. When I was pregnant (many moons ago) and suffered from cramp, my doctor advised against it due to the quinine content. There is info. on the net but is a bit conflicting, so I think the best person to ask is your gynea. edited by amelia on 14/10/2011 Thanks, I'm not pregnant though :)

If you are pregnant, maybe take advice before drinking tonic water or taking tablets like Panadol Night. In fact, he didn't like mums-to-be taking any medication at all unless absolutely necessary. I ve had it for a few years and it's mostly start of the night , on the sofa or in bed. When I fall asleep, it never wakes me up. Anyway I asked my husband to manage my feet and it worked really well. Didn't have the RLS for a week. The week after I went to feet first in Ibn Battuta and had an hour long feet massage and didn't get for a week again. It's brilliant. So I guess I'm signing up for feet massages now regularly. It is a blood circulation problem I think that is probably why it helps. Should have thought about it years ago !

I occasionally suffer from this uncomfortable condition and when I do, I use a cream named IceDancer by NuSkin for immediate relief. But, really, any cream with cooling properties should do for a massage that especially includes the soles of the feet. edited by crystalsindubai on 14/10/2011

Am a bit surprised that the use of magnesium as as a respite for this problem hasn't been mentioned more forcefully here. It's well-known that magnesium supplements are a good aid for muscle cramps, i.e. restless leg syndrome, and I certainly swear by it. I take one magnesium tab before bed [u'>every night[/u'>, and if occasionally I'm still woken up in the night with RLS, will take another, which sends me off to a deep sleep in no time! If for some reason I don't take them, can pretty much guarantee I'll be awake in the middle of the night anyway with RLS ... That is great to hear :) It's been so hard not sleeping til early hours then my little boy getting me up just as i have nodded off :(

Hi!! I used to get RLS all the time..especially at night and sitting on a plane for 16 or more hours!! Enough to drive you mad having to get up and walk or do something to move your leg or legs!! (Mine is always my right leg)!!I find a Panadol Night when RLS is driving me nuts helps a lot and also S****X as someone else said.. I don't know what causes it but it is terrible!!! Gym, bananas and "you know what" all help and if not try a Panadol Night availabe at pharmacies!! Hope you can find something to help... it is really awful.. just thinking about it makes my leg feel strange!!!

I agree that half the problem with rls is that it sounds so fake, like hypochondria. However, they were advertising medication on the tv in the US this Summer.

I disagree about it being a result of poor circulation. I say this as I had it when I was around 4 or 5 years old. I remember crying my mother that I could not sleep because of it and, of course, become it did not hurt - she did not know what to do nor take it very seriously. Back then, I don't know if anyone knew it or had a name for it, and you did not go to the doctor unless it was serious. I learned a few months ago that my sister's daughter suffers from it as well. i think it is partly to do with it, as this is why many pregnant ladies suffer from it (mine flared up so much during pregnancy) BUT i don't think it is the main reason. I think its time to see a doc and find out!

Yeah my husband always says ''It's not that bad, it's only a leg ache'', after the hours of tossing and turning. I wish he had it for a few weeks to see how he likes it!!! Gosh, i sound so mean saying that but......... I'm surprised how many people have this. I don't have a single friend or family member that suffers. They say its a high chance someone close in your family suffers too if you do!

I have bad RLS at times, but haven't in quite awhile and put it down to an increase in bananas in my diet. The potassium seems to help. My mom and sisters get it quite severely as well and each one of us deals with it differently and seem to cope yet none of us medicate. Never tried magnesium but will definitely keep it in mind! My husband still teases me about it and thinks the syndrome sounds made up! Too bad they couldn't come up with a more clinical sounding name!! I think that, unless you've experienced it, you can't understand how crummy it feels :P

I get this from time to time and the last time I had it, my DH gave me a foot massage. I couldnt believe how quickly it got rid of the horrible "OMG I have to move my leg" feeling! And of course, I got a nice foot massage :) Massage doesn't work unfortunately for me - it is very painful infact :(

I've had RLS since I was very young -- however did not know what it was until about 10 years ago as there is no way to describe it. Anyway, I don't have "pain" but rather a tingling in my legs which builds and builds until I must move my leg to ease it -- then it builds and builds again. Is that what other people have? Honestly, I have never asked the doctor for treatment as I don't get it too frequently anymore. I notice it flairs up when I travel on airplanes which is annoying. One thing a friend told me a few years ago is that "s**" is good for (before going to bed) at night and, frankly, I found this to be true. Afterwards I can usually sleep. Weird by true. The last bit of your post i find helpful too :) The way you desribed it is spot on, the only way to ease the pain is to move the leg, as soon as it is resting, the aching begins!!!! I have had it for years also, but only recently has it being a constant thing. edited by laurab85 on 13/10/2011
