Thanks for the comments - we ended up at Seafire - we had a lovely meal, fantastic quality & service. Now reading all your comments I need to persuade hubby for a night out at Ruth Chris's & also Prime at some point! thanks again

Went to Ruth Chris a few weeks ago with DH and found the quality to be very poor compared to the Ruth Chris restaurants in the states. I also did not like the set up at all with the big bulky leather chairs.

Well, I'm not a beef eater, but we were once at Atlantis for a blogger's event and I was pretty awed by some of the trivia the chefs threw at us. Like the concept of marbling - and how they fatten a cow on grain versus grass so that the steak is more tender and how they cook the quail eggs for exactly 12 minutes to get the right amount of wobble. Here's a list of some of the bloggers who covered it. Some very appetizing pictures too, especially from the first link; so you can't say I didn't warn you :D http://tinyurl.com/6a7t32u http://tinyurl.com/3rekqhz http://tinyurl.com/3pzs9cz Sorry, don't have any fodder on Ruth Chris.

I completely agree with quizzme. I've been to all of the restaurants mentioned here (had an awful, awful evening at seafire and would not go back) but I would highly recommend prime at the meydan hotel one of the best meals I've ever had in Dubai - absolutely stunning food and probably one of the best steaks I've ever had too. Excellent attentive but not in your face service. They take steaks very seriously there and will spend time getting the cut and cooking method exactly as you like it. I burnt my arm at Ruth chris's on the crazy hot plate! If it's steak you want I also really like rare at the desert palm resort - very peaceful setting and excellent steak but prime wins hands down for me!

Another vote for "Prime" here, one of the best steaks we've had! And a gorgeous restaurant.

If you want a fabulous steak you've got to try "Prime" at Meydan hotel. Vouchers are in the Fine Dining Entertainer. We've been to Seafire, The Grand Grill etc ... and nothing beats the steaks in Prime, absolutely amazing. The restaurant is fab too, quiet (not the clubby/loud type), live pianist on most evenings and service is great. We just went this week with 3 guests from France and they absolutely loved it x

Seafire for sure. I work next door to Ruth Chris and have had a few lunches and dinners there and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Yes that is the "tradition" of Ruth Chris. I never have the butter as it is too much for me. I can't stand Seafire as it is like a huge canteen with poor service filled with tourists but that's just me. That's surprising we go to Seafire quite often, it's the place where we take all our visitors, it's never been canteen style more New York style and the service has always been fantastic. Guess we might of been lucky as it's always had a nice mix of people and not too busy.

They cook it in butter but you can request not to have it... I don't mind steak cooked in butter but this was swimming in it, the butter came half way up the steak and because the plate was so hot it was burning as I was eating the steak. The quality of the meat at Ruth Chris was really poor when I went especially for the price you pay. IMO Seafire is by far the best quality steak if you get the Atlantis meat, Asdo is also another favourite for steak and the location is fantastic. edited by starsouthern on 13/10/2011

I went to Ruth Chris once for lunch and found the meat to be pretty poor quality, and the whole meal VERY oily. I also didn't like how they served it on a really hot plate, because it basically kept cooking the steak as I ate it, so it was basically over cooked by the time I finished it. The sides were nothing to write home about. I got a key lime pie for dessert and it was nothing like what a key lime pie should be, so I didn't enjoy it. I have however heard from many people it is a nice restaurant, so maybe because I went at lunch it wasn't nice, chef different or something like that. Seafire on the other hand has never let me down and the desserts are to die for. They cook it in butter but you can request not to have it...

Another option, if you've got the entertainer is Asado at the Palace hotel, Nice location where you can sit outside and look at the fountains (although I still like the food at Seafire better)
