It pleases me that so many people in Dubai turn their noses up at Satwa because i get to live in my spaceous apartment in this beautiful area for a very reasonable price! and munch on Ravi's at least once a week for under 10 dirhams.
Not anymore, if this thread goes on much longer. ;)

I agree with the others...it would be a great place to live, very vibrant and lots of variety. It isn't at all 'flash' or glitzy like many areas of Dubai and is one of the cheaper areas. You'd get lots of bargains and easy access to fantastic food.
agreed - satwa is my absolute favourite place in dubai! in fact, i'm just about to move there after 4 years of downtown. it's a fantastic place with a real vibe. love it. some satwa reading for you here...

There are pockets of pleasant villa areas surrounding Satwa. We have friends who live in the part of Satwa between the "high street" and Al Wasl Road, near the Iranian Hospital. It's almost like a secret little area that no one knows about and is lined with lush greenery so one can almost believe that they're in Singapore and not Dubai. The area is properly called Al Badia but it's still considered part of Satwa.
I only have two caveats about living in Satwa: the traffic in and out can be heavy, especially along Al Wasl Road and during rush hour, so despite its proximity to SZR and other parts of Dubai it may still take some time to get in/out.
Apparently some of the compounds closest to the "high street" have been converted into shared housing for Filipinos. If the villa you're looking at is in a compound double check that the neighboring villas aren't housing villa shares. It's one thing to have a group of western expats living one to a room, it's another to have 3-4-5 Filipinos per room.
I have been to that area a lot as my PO box is there near the big mosque.
My hair stylist at Profile lives there and calls it "Little Manila".....but I have seen some nice looking newish villas on the main road leading to Shk Z Rd.
not a bad area: less sterile and more real than newer parts of Dubai. There was a report though recently on how there used to be gangs of youth in parts of Satwa who are moving to Al Quoz: these are not serious gangs but still some do carry swords, knives etc

I know people who turn their noses up when they hear Satwa and do the whole ' I wouldnt be caught dead in that area' . I think its due to the fact that the apartments are cheap and you have a large majority of lower paid workers living there.
I have a friend who lives in satwa in a Huuuuggggeee arabic villa.
she lives near the Gems school behind the Union Coop. I think its a lovely area around there...handy to get onto SHZRD. She has 2 children and lives next to an arabic speaking family ( not local ) kids come around to play.
I like it and keep telling her to give me the nod when she moves out so I can move in !
Satwa is not a bad area to live, I have friends that live in Satwa and it is just across the road from Jumeriah.
Good location, close to everything and not too far from Sheikh Zayed Road (the main road through Dubai).
Hi guys..
My DH and I are looking to move in August, and I came across a villa in Satwa that is within our budget.. I've always heard the Satwa is a bad area too live in.. so I wanted to go some input..
Is Satwa a bad area to live and raise children?
TIA
