What is it with people not throwing toilet paper down the toilet, but rather allow it to build up in the rubbish bin under the sink?

How do I politely ask people to throw it down the toilet?

The toilet paper in the bin thing makes me want to puke - disgusting! If the toilet paper cant be flushed due to drainage etc then it should be place in a covered sanitised bin not an open waste paper basket and emptied very regularly. But to be honest, if people are using small amounts of paper (and the paper these days is probably recycled, biodegradable etc) then I would imagine in most modern facilities you should be able to flush???

Like a face washer size - using and then throwing down for washing - reusing rather than using and disposing mentality. I actually think toilet paper is a luxury of the affluent western society. Certainly, in our place in Pakistan (rural), no such thing as toilet paper!! When I took some home a few years ago, the family used it piece by piece as tissues (also a luxury in our place). Toilet paper is also used in restaurants/cafes in South Korea instead of paper serviettes not in bathrooms!! Rolls just sit on the tables. In South Korea, bidets have built in "dryers"!!!!!!

In her defense, if she is Muslim, Muslims wash themselves after using the toilet. The paper, if used at all, theoretically, is used to dry only. There should not be any smell at all. The paper should not be "dirty", only wet. Small towels area also often used in the home after washing. small towels ? edited by mushypeas on 10/11/2013

In parts of Europe it's customary to put the paper in a bin next to the loo because the drains can't handle it..I've been to Greece and parts of Spain where this is the case.. Neither can the bathrooms in the Greens. My friends DH blocked mine! .

i think the reason they say dont flush it down the toilet is coz it ends up clogging the drains...

The drains here are not good like we have back home. It's the same in lebanon. If you keep flushing it down the loo, it could block your pipes.
