you can get this paste stuff that they put dots of everywhere - i had this done about 4 years ago and only saw one little beastie last week.....
can't be bothered to get them to come in again as i'm moving in 10 days (YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY)
When we moved in and saw our first cockroach, it turned out there were heaps of them in the outside drain which is how they got into the house, I assume.
I got our house sprayed inside and out from Ridapest Control, our house 5 bedroom cost 600 DHS with a 3 month guarantee. We get them to come and spray outside every six months now.
They are the things which gross me out the most.

I ended up using a company called A-Z services - 04 4572746. I was pregnant at the time (still am) and they used a spray that was safe. They then put a brown gel in lots of nooks and crannies all over the flat. Not seen one nasty horrible dirty roach since. The spray seemed to draw out all the cockroaches / bugs as the next day there were dead ones everywhere along the lines were they had sprayed. An immense amount came out from the behind the dishwasher. For a 2 bed apartment it cost me 300 dhs and that came with a 3 month guarantee. Was very pleased and would def use them again as expect soon enough they will creep their way back.
Definitely report it to the building management - we live in a building with useless management but when I reported cockroaches they organised a visit from pest control for the whole building and they seem to come every 6 months now. So even though cockroaches are common here hopefully EMAAR will take it seriously and want to prevent it from getting worse.
We had the brown gel put around our kitchen as well and we didn't see any for absolutely ages, every now and again we get one but it is rare, not like before where we were seeing one every few days. And I was the same - horrified thinking that it was a reflection on my cleanliness! Luckily we only seem to get baby ones but I still can't stand them, I think it is the fact that they are so invincible that freaks me out!
A few years back they appeared in our apartment! Horrible! After using the spray cochroach killer and a pack of stuff from Choitram I decided to get pet control in!
We used Al Kenouz Pest Control. 04 823338. (just got their name from the classifieds in the paper)
The guy that came explained that they can come from anywhere - hidden in fruit cartons, fly in or up through drains and it's no reflection on how clean / dirty your house is! He also said that the sprays, etc that you can buy don't get rid of them.
As Amelia mentioned he put little dots of a brown gel in kitchen cupboards, in corners, under the countertop - almost unnoticeable with no odour or fumes it was like a small glue gun.
Cockroaches were gone over night - never saw another one ever!
Good luck.

I used these guys too.
we had them in the kitchen and I was told that they lay eggs ** shudder ** which is why they appeared months after we moved in . I regulalry Pif Paf and once a month, clear out the kitchen cupboards and pif paf everything and go out for a few hours, when im back, I always find dead bugs !
Get the ultrasonic plug-ins from Carrefour. (Unless you have pets, then don't)
We started using them as were getting those weird little bugs everywhere. within hours, they were all gone. My mum used to have them as well, we got so many roaches in our old place (backing onto bushland) and they all scarpered as well. Best thing is, no chemicals involved!
Just searching through all the info about Cockroaches!
In the last couple of weeks I have found some dead ones, seen a large live one (sprayed) but also a couple of very small ones. Does this mean we HAVE cockroaches or are they coming for a walk? Reception in the building tell me Pest control come in monthly but obviously not to all the apartments.
Living half way up a tower of apartments is this inevitable?
Surely even pest control can't stop them from coming in from other apartments via drains and AC etc?
Urrrggghhhhh! Help and advice please?

First, those creepy b**** like clean places, so don't think that it is because you are not clean or you are leaving food out :)
Second, water is the thing that attracts them, not food. Check for small leaks from anything that uses water, even places that are moist. Roaches seek moist places to lay their eggs, so make sure these places are sprayed and dried as much as possible to discourage them to enter into your house. A/C is perfect for them if dripping.
Good luck..
OMG..... I'm watching too much Discovery Channel :\:

Eugh - I cant stop thinking about them scurrying around in my apartment right now while we are both at work. Really makes me sqirm.
Amelia - if you post the details of the person you have used before that would be great. Im getting pest control onto this ASAP and will head to the shops tonight to stock up on potions etc....the little helmets wont know whats hit them.
Cockroaches are a common occurance here, even when your home is clean. There are a variety of people living here all with different hygiene standards. Garbage disposal shoots are wonderful places for cockroaches to hang out and then find their way into your apartment. If you don't want to have a company come in and spray you can buy get syringes at the supermarket for cockroaches that you can pipe at the backs of cupboards, drawers etc and they tend to work from experience.
Had exactly the same experience around two weeks ago; when I opened the dishwasher and one scuttled out and that has happened a few times since; they must love to hot & humid dishwasher experience!
Our DD has a guy who comes to do pest control once a year at her villa and he's not expensive. He puts blobs of brown paste like stuff inside all drawers, cupboards, on door frames, skirting boards, etc. and it works fine. No need to leave the premises while it is being done. But I don't think any treatment will be 100% successful as you may still find the odd insect, etc. Can get the number for you if you wish.

Is it cockroach season as we have also discovered them? I did a search on here and came up with 2 companies; Nation Pest Control and Pacific Pest Control (I think) but before calling them out I bought some spray and sprayed all the door sills, inside and out, which seems to be controlling them at the moment - we then went out for the day!. I have children and pets so am concerned but possibly more concerned with fumigators out here after the recent press!
It actually says in our contract that we, and not the landlord, are responsible for pest control.
I hadn't thought of around the dishwasher but that will be next, the drains as well I suppose.
Eeeekk - we have just discovered cockroaches in our kitchen and running across the floor. We have lived in this partment for 8 months and the cockroach sightings have only started in the last month. The first time was when I opened the dishwasher and one scuttled out - I nearly died. We live in a very clean flat and our apartment is kept tidy as well in the foyers etc. Its only the odd sighting but that is now starting to become once a day and who knows what happens when the lights go out :(
Any advice on where they might be coming from and what we can do to prevent them would be much appreciated. I feel sick thinking about them scrurrying over kitchen surfaces. Also, if we get pest control in, do we pay for this or the landlord? Our building is an Emmar building so I guess first port of call is to let them know but doubt they will do anything.
Thanks ladies for any advice you have.
