Hi ladies - I am having my 3rd C-section in January and am also nervous (about the stairs among other things). Sounds like good advice to try keep everything downstairs to minimize the climb. Any other advice from those of you who have been through it already? Is it more difficult 3rd time? What painkillers did you take? Did you avoid driving for a few weeks? Cocopops - you mention to accept any offered help... my ILs have offered to come and stay and I'm not sure if it is going to help or hinder. My 2 kids love them though, so I'm thinking it will help keep them entertained and help them adjust to the change. What do you think?

I had my 3rd c section around 3.5 years ago and I found it harder this time. I was living in the UK at the time, and luckily I had DH working from home, so he could do the school runs in the first 6 weeks. ( insurance purposes also) Even though they do advise to walk around as much as you can, even though it's advised not to carry heavy weights, you kinda know the limits of your body. I found housework really really hard. I got a cleaner in once a week & I kept all my bare essentials such as nappies, wet wipes spare clothing downstairs, to minimise having to walk up the stairs. I only went up when I had to. I kept my Moses basket downstairs too. I noticed with my third c section , I had to take painkillers for a longer period of time. Take plenty of rest as and when you can. I know this is probably difficult for you with 2 little ones, but accept any help offered to you, because it'll benefit you. Ask DH to help with the bed-time routine. As I said, you know your body and just go with what your body tells you....Hope you recover quickly.

To minimize the up and down, is there a room on the bottom floor that the baby can sleep in by day, can you bring down some things like changes of clothes etc so that you care not running upstairs for them if you need them. Take the stairs slowly, and don't carry the 3 year old up/down them. I didn't actually find the stairs painful from memory, not sure whether you have already had the section and are struggling with them, or just worrying in advance?

After my 1st c-section I was staying at my parents house and they live in a double storey. I just did "the climb" as little as possible. Do you have a helper? Can you base your day (and get your DH to help you set up) in one storey so you don't have to go up and down. I didn't do myself any damage while going up and down, but it's not a great idea. I just went super slowly Going down was easier than going up I recall. Just try to take it easy as much as possible. I am due to have my 3rd c-section in a couple of months too!
