White Curtains - Will they get dirty?

I was thinking of having white sheer curtains (with blockout lining on a separate track behind the sheers) in our apartment. I have this in Australia and it looks very light and breezy. But then I started to think about all the sand that seems to be everywhere in Dubai:(. Are my white sheers going to look dirty very quickly?
We don't have little kids so dirty finger marks aren't a concern.
What do you think. Do I need to go for a darker colour?

I can't imagine closing the windows during the nice weather. But then as you say that depends on noise.

I reckon it would also depend on how much one opens windows. We have friends who never open theirs, summer or winter because of noise. Their curtains prob stay much cleaner than ours... edited by sadubai on 28/06/2012

Hi again, In our first place we were on the 1st floor in a very, very sandy/dusty area (Shorooq Mirdif, looking out into Mushrif park) and the balcony was absolutely massive... but the curtains were perfect, only had to clean them once and that was after 1 year when we left that place. Well there goes that theory lol.

Desertprincess, Fairwater and Eli1979 - what floor do you live on? Maybe Lynett84 is right. Eli1979 your curtains look gorgeous. And I love the colour of your walls. I only saw apartments with cream walls when we looked around. These are our curtains in our current house. I have blinds behind them but will do blockout in Dubai.[url=http://www.decoratingforum.com.au/showthread.php?5106-Julie-Ann-s-Cottage'>link[/url'> Hi again, In our first place we were on the 1st floor in a very, very sandy/dusty area (Shorooq Mirdif, looking out into Mushrif park) and the balcony was absolutely massive... but the curtains were perfect, only had to clean them once and that was after 1 year when we left that place.

When you say plain coloured nixdxb - do you mean cream? What floor are you on? We are trying to work out if you live up high do you get less dirt. Now wouldn't that be a nice theory lol. No, some are teal and some are burnt orange. I reckon cream ones would hide the dust even more than white ones - the closer to sand colour the better! We are in a townhouse where there is lots of sand nearby that gets blown into the house. I imagine in a high apartment there would be a lot less dust/sand.

we have light curtains and have two kids, you dont really notice unless there is an obvious stain on them. Once they are washed again though you can tell that they must have been quite dirty compared but it only gets done every 12 months.

We have plain coloured Roman blinds and the dust really shows up on them so I wonder if white ones would actually show the dust/dirt less?

jamhind: I live in a villa in the Springs -- so no apartment. Like the other person replied, I have to wash my sheers a few times a year.

Have moved house back in feb and wanted something different this time with regards to the curtains so have put white linen curtains in the living and breakfast room. So far they are still clean and love the light and breezy look, just like you said. Here's what I'm talking about: [url=http://s1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh630/Eli_1979/'>link[/url'>

I must have been unlucky because I certainly found that my sheers and curtains got dirty very quickly - I had to have them cleaned about 4 times a year, and washed the sheers even more often. (villa in Springs)

What floor are you on Norak? Even though everyone tells you about the dust it was quite a shock how much dust there actually was, especially on the balconies. I do love to keep doors open when the weather permits.

Maybe if your high up -- but I just threw another pair of my white sheers into the washer -last night - so gray. And, I don't open my window much except in cooler weather. I'm sorry, but I would never put white curtains up.

in our apt. we have all white and cream and things dont tend to get dirty that quickly - we dont have children. we do have washable and dry cleanable things so that helps.

That's so great to know - thanks. By having the blockout on a separate track the sheers will be very easy to get drycleaned. And the blockout I can just wipe down. Well that's another decision made. Now for DH's company to get their butt into gear and organise the paperwork to get us to Dubai. Big companies move sooooo slowly:(.

I have lovely white curtains in my living room and was worried they'd get dirty really quickly, esp as my kitchen/lounge is all open plan. They didn't though, and I only dry clean them once a year. agreed - i have the same and once a year cleaning is ok. remember to remove the blackout bits first!
