I recently registered myself at Latifa Hosp for my pregnancy check-ups and birth. I received the sms of my appointment which is after 3months when I'll be almost 30weeks. Is that normal? I thought I would have earlier check-ups at my local clinic. I've tried calling my local clinic but no one's picking up. Hope someone on here can guide me.

I still haven't had a chance to pass by my local clinic to sort out my issue. Really hoping that I get a chance this week. silkie16, I've heard that with governement hospitals its quite normal to be given late appointments/scans. I remember a story where a woman was given an appointment for her 20week after she was due. Honestly that's why I tried to register with Latifa as early as possible- and as you can see even then my supposed 20week appointment isn't till my 28th week. They are supposed to be really busy hence all the late appointments. I've also not heard anything bad about Dubai Hospital. Perhaps it doesn't have the reputation that Latifa has because it's not an exclusive women and child hospital. 11legs and JBads, Thanks for the info. Will definitely be persistent. lilypad28, I got my confirmation sms for my appointment with Latifa. I got referred Sunday and got the sms Monday. Did you go directly to Latifa or a local clinic? I'm heading over to my local clinic to pick up papers for Latifa and to clear up whether I will have any earlier appointments (since Latifa app is for week28). Honestly with my last pregnancy I don't remember my doctor ever mentioning the importance of a 20week scan (I didn't have my daughter in Dubai). Yet everyone who has delivered here keeps telling me how important that 20week scan is. Conversely with my daughter I remember the doctor ordering several blood tests and a 3D scan for the NT test. Yet when I spoke to someone in Latifa they said since I don't meet the requirements for the test that it would not be done.

Okay so i dont know if I should be writing this here or just start a LATIFA HOSPITAL SUPPORT GROUP thread :(. This week has been very tense with me trying to decide on the hospital I want to get registered at. Finally decided on Latifa, spent a good 4 hrs there yesterday, meeting with the doctor and getting the blood work and future appointments sorted out. Not too happy with the decision at the moment I must say. The OB/GYN said I probably wont be getting an appointment for the 20 week scan done, and then went on to say that it is not important. Don't know what to make of that. Is it really not important?. Plus still waiting for any word on the Latifa hospital appointments that were requested. Were you girls given appointment dates right away or were you told that you will be notified through sms? I dont know if I should still be waiting for the SMS or just go make the trip to latifa to try and sort things out myself. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I'm also registered to deliver at Latifa and my experience has been pretty good so far. It can be a little confusing at first but once you're registered it should be pretty straight forward. My local clinic was also Al Safa so had my 1st appointment there with a GP at 12 weeks (paid 150dh), she gave me a referal letter and a bunch of appointment booking forms which I took to Latifa. Your appointments don't start until 16 weeks so all I had to do was shedule my 1st appointment + blood work and my 21 week scan then I returned 4 weeks later to have my 1st appointment with an OB/Gyn and my blood tests - I also paid my 5000 for the package that day. Since then I've had alternate appointments between the local clinic and Latifa - I had to tell the doctor that I wanted appointments at the local clinic as it was easier for me to get to and she was happy for me to do that. The docs have all been really great and I've only had one experience so far where we had a long wait for appointments, otherwise I can't complain. Hope that helps!

I am currently registered at Latifa hospital and have appointments every month. I registered with Al Safa clinic when I was about 14 weeks. When I got my referral letter I rang and got an appointment 2/3 weeks later. At the first appointment they took the payment of 5000 aed and did blood tests. I was there for 3 hours. I booked my scan at the same time which was when I was 23 weeks. I think you need to be persistent with the govt health centres and hospitals to get anywhere. Latifa is supposed to be one of best for maternity so it is worth pursuing. Good luck! I know how frustrating it can be.

Hi lilypad28, CABear, nadiarikhaimi Sharing my experience of registration & appointments... Since i stay in Al Nahda Dubai area, i had to go to Al Mamzar health center to register for the health card. Registration process was quite smooth, the lady told me Latifa wouldnt accept me as i fallout of their area. I fall under Dubai hospital area. I was like - Fine - do i have a choice then? so registered anyways. Then she asked me to pay AED 150/- to see the local GP at the clinic itself to get the referral letter for Dubai hosp. The GP saw in about 10 mins, took all my background info & weight/height, etc. She gave me the letter plus other tests to be done at Dubai hosp - including blood tests & ultra sound. I then had to go back to the registration counter to take appt with gynaec in Dubai hosp - they hv given it for 6th Aug! They also told me to call the hosp to book for the U/s test. When i called in the afternoon, they said they can give me appt only 4 days before the appt with gynaec. & i had to pay AED 500/- for the U/s (sounded high for a govt hosp) - yes, at Dubai hosp - we can either pay by visit or take the package. They also told me if i decide to do the test outside, i can just take that report to the gynaec & it is fine. I havent confirmed the u/s appt as i complete 20 weeks today & want to have the test done outside to confirm if everything is ok. Since i'm not finding much info on delivery reviews for Dubai hosp - i'm reconsidering if i should go for it or go to other private hosp. I also do not have insurance, but i want to be in safe hands than experiment. Any comments/reviews?

nadiarikhaimi - Yes I guess In that case you need to go to the clinic yourself and ask for an appointment with the ANC Doctor. Hope it all gets sorted out for you. Good luck edited by lilypad28 on 11/07/2012

I paid for the antenatal care at Latifa. Yes, you should be able to get all tests done right away. I never saw any outside care, the antenatal care through Latifa/clinic covers everything. Good luck! It can be a little difficult in the beginning trying to have everything explained but be persistent and someone will guide you! Thanks CABear, was at the local clinic today to see the GP. The management side was quite a nightmare to say the least. The lady behind the counter could not answer one question straight. I am quite close to tears wondering if should continue with Latifa or just go a private hospital like NMC, would atleast save me all that trouble. nadiarikhaimi - Did you go to Latifa directly to register there? Or were you at the local clinic first for the referral? Since they dint see you at Latifa till the later stages of pregnancy they probably expect you to get the initial AnteNatal Care at your local clinic. I was given the form for blood tests and Ultrasound aswell, but was told that this will be done once I come back to pay the 5000 aed and see the OB/GYN at the local clinic on the given apointment date. May I ask where your primary health care center is? Mine falls in Khawaneej area. Also the reason they might not be answering the phone lines is probably that you were calling after 2 pm... these people do not believe in working late :) edited by lilypad28 on 11/07/2012 I went to Latifa Hospital to get my health card and was then referred to Rashidiya Local Cllinic which turned out to be closed and so was sent to Nad Al Hammar Clinic. I went to NAH clinic last Sunday. Saw a GP who took all my details and gave me the referral letter to Latifa along with the test orders. I'm a GCC national and so don't pay so all I was told was to wait for the sms of my Latifa appointment. That's it. And I didn't call after 2pm. I started calling at 11am and no one picked up till after 2pm. Even then, it was transferred to 3different people who had no idea what I was talking about. I really hope that going to the clinic will get me some clear answers.

This does seem strange. I registered and delivered with Latifa and had my earlier appointments at Umm Suqeim clinic. I registered at 15 weeks and had my first appointment right away. I didn't have any appointments at Latifa until I was about 36 weeks. Perhaps check with your local clinic and try to make an appointment with them. I recommend going to your local clinic in person and bring the receipt for the 5000 aed antenatal care, they should give you an appointment right away. Thanks CABear. Yes, I figured that the best thing would be to just head on over to my local clinic. Though I wish I would have been informed of the procedure and not have to run around trying to get answers. Hopefully when I do head to local clinic I can sort things out right the first time. silkie16, I haven't made up my mind about where else to go for check-ups and if everything is covered by Latifa, as CABear says, then I might just stick to one place. Especially because I will be paying everything out of pocket. edited by nadiarikhaimi on 11/07/2012

Hi CABear, I am going to make a trip to my local clinic in the morning to get the referral letter for latifa. Can you please tell me where do you pay the 5000 aed for the anti natal care. Is that done at the local clinic or is it done at latifa hospital. Also what is to be expected once you pay for the ante natal care, is it possible to request for certain tests to be done right away? since I am 21 weeks and need to get the anomaly scan done asap. TIA

Hi silkie16, Yes I am considering appointments outside I was just under the impression that I would have earlier check-ups at my local clinic. I thought that check-ups at Latifa would only happen in my 3rd trimester. I have reached my local clinic and was told to simply pick up my paperwork for Latifa appointment. No one could provide me with any information and so I'm quite confused. Also I was given paperwork for blood tests to be done and yet no one can tell me when I'm supposed to do them or where! Hey nadiarikhaimi Probably you need to call Latifa to get your appointment for blood tests/scan like I have been asked to call Dubai hospital for the tests. Usually they will give you appointment for tests 3-4 days before your appointment with the doc. May i ask which private hosp/clinic are you planning to go to for routine checkups?

Hi Nadiarikhaimi I have registered @ my local clinic & i'm referred to Dubai hospital, my 1st appt is after 1 month from today! so i think its pretty normal. Are you not considering the option to having a checkup outside with some other gynaec while you wait for your appt?
