Can you buy Paula's Choice and Skinactives in Dubai? I buy them online and get them sent to my US Shop+Ship account. Skinactives is a lot of fun, because you can order individual chemical actives and mix your own creams, for example I order their standard antioxidant serum and add additional antioxidants and their standard collagen serum and add copper peptides P's-C do some really good AHA and BHA products, as well as great retinol containing products, and a serum that's almost identical to the Skinceuticals "C E Ferrulic". However their antioxidant serums I think have a silicone base which isn't for everyone The science behind skincare isn't actually that complicated. A lot of the stuff offered by big brands (Dior, Chanel, YSL etc) is just marketing hype and very overpriced. Cosmeceutical brands offer better products but they're often super expensive Retinol creams that I think are available here - Roc - retinox Philosophy - hope in a jar Differin 1% (pharmacies) Skinceuticals retinol 1% serum edited by celticcavegirl on 16/06/2014 I know it has been a while since you posted this but I am wanting to order Paula's choice. Also I read in your post that you use US Shop+Ship. When I talked to the PC customer service lady, she assured me that because they use FedEx couriers I would receive my package. I am really not sure what to do, whether I should use Shop+Ship or just order through the website and trust that FedEx will get it to me. Why is it that you chose to use Shop+Ship? At first glance it seems rather expensive, especially ordering things such as heavy skin care products? I am not too sure what website I should order through or if it even matters, for instance should I order through the American website or the UK one? Also has anyone just ordered off the PC website and received their package? Look forward to your reply :)

If you have the time check out this website http://www.paulaschoice.com/beautypedia/ Paula Begoun reviews all major brands and tells you whether or not the cosmetics live up to their promises. She also tells you which ones are best depending on what you need for your skin. My skin was oily, constantly broke out in spots and is very sensitive. I spent some time going through the website looking at what I was using (both skin care and makeup) and finding out they were the worst things to use despite the promises they made! I then tried the products she recommended for my skin and that would combat my problems. My skin is so much better. Not perfect but the changes are amazing! She also recommends products across every price range so you can find what works best within your budget. I went from spending thousands on useless expensive products to buying products a 1/4 of the price and it actually working for me. edited by chants39 on 11/07/2014

Agree and not to mention a pyramid scheme too which has been the subject of an enqury in some countries which is why they are moving towards this region big time. Very interesting. Someone was desperately trying to get me involved in this (obviously as they get commission) but I had huge concerns over the legalities of it. They said that it is all above board to be employed by them as the parent company has a TL at the airport free zone but when I looked in to it (just out of curiosity wasn't actually interested in joining the scheme!) there didn't seem to be any labour cards issued. I felt that the whole scheme is actually absolutely nothing to do with the products - only about this 200 GBP that the person pays when joining up, the starter pack. Then everyone down the line gets a cut of this 200 GBP. Then you get someone else to sign up and they pay the 200 gbp and it just keeps going and going. DH bought some toothpaste from someone at work and it's alright, but out of principle I wouldn't buy any from someone who is working for a company who is trying to fly under the radar and not provide proper docs! Good thing you gave it a miss, as you say, the products are nothing special and very overpriced plus MLMs and Pyramid schemes never make anyone on the downline any money, beside the latter being outside of the law in this country.

Just like to a caution if using Retinol creams, they are photo inactivated and should not be used in the sun, best used at night. It is essential to use a sunblock in the day. edited by Di@DXB on 11/07/2014

Hello ladies, A few active ingredients to look for in an effective wrinkle cream are retinol, alpha hydroxy acids, kinetic, copper peptides, coenzymes Q10 and antioxidants. These ingredients may result in improvements in the appearance of wrinkles. As we age, our skin tends to be drier and collect dead skin cells, therefore it is important to use a good scrub as it is to use a good cream. Microdermabrasion or just a plain good ol' face scrub helps to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines and helps in better absorbing the wrinkle cream! Just my two cents from attending beauty school, hope it helps :-) edited by FriendsWithMakeup on 10/07/2014

Unfortunately there isn't really a permanent solution for wrinkles unless you want to pay for a facelift ; ) Assuming that you don't, I agree with the others that if you are healthy, your skin will be healthy. Sunscreen is a must! If it's too late for all of that, then I would try Lexli products. They are high grade aloe products. Theres a whole bunch of different ones so you would have to read about which ones you think would benefit you the most. I have been using the "Aloe Glyc" and "Night Moisturizer" for a few months now and my skin really looks a lot better. (I am fair - blue eyes, blond hair) The sun damage looks better, my acne is better, the overall tone is just a lot better. It's kind of tingly the first few weeks and I even thought it made my skin a bit worse right off the bat so I thought about ditching it, but if you are consistent it pays off. The guy who formulated them is from the US (well from Pakistan originally) and just opened up his plastic surgery practice here in Dubai. I am not sure if he sells them here or not yet. I get them online. His name is Dr. Ahmed Abdullah and he is at Eternity Medicine Institute. I have seen him for a number of things since moving here. Super friendly guy.

Thanks, svenskidubai. Much appreciated. Ultraceuticals smells delicious. Well, at least not as medicinal as Skinceuticals does! The suncreen has the strongest smell of all... but as long as it works... I dont mind.

I'm looking for Ultraceuticals products, which are Australian. Does anyone know if these are available in Dubai? The Ultra A Smoothing Complex (Retinol) and Ultra C (10%) serums are both excellent, and rival Skinceuticals' products at one-third the price. My dermatologist in Hong Kong switched me over to these but, sadly, I've now finished my treasured hoard. Failing that, where can I buy Skinceuticals? Thanks a lot. I haven't heard about Ultraceuticals products but I use Skinceuticals myself and buy the from Elite plastic and cosmetic surgery group in dubai healthcare city

Sorry to be a spoilsport but as far as I'm aware, there is little or no research showing that anti-ageing creams actually work. This is absolutely true for the large majority of creams - psuedo science and marketing However, retinol, especially retinoic acid, is one of the only chemicals that has been scientifically proven to work. That's one of the reasons that in many countries you need a prescription for it! Retinols work by chemically signalling the skin to start turning over/renewing itself more quickly. The skin produces more collagen and that collagen is more organised BHAs work by exfoliation and reduction of age spots and blemishes Age is shown by wrinkles but also by loss of contrast in the face. Over time, the skin gets darker and the eyebrows, eyelashes, lips etc get lighter. That's why the application of a little of the right makeup will have a dramatic effect! (as will a chemical peel that lightens the skin). Here's a really nice evening 'makeover' for a lady who is 60 - [url=http://www.maskcara.com/2013/01/07/age-is-beauty/'>Age Is Beauty[/url'> Re: botox and fillers - botox address wrinkles and fillers, volume. Neither do anything to skin tone/thickness/quality which is why for a good result a 3-pronged attack is needed, the final stage being peels, lasers, radiofrequency treatments to address skin condition. That's part of the reason that botox or filler alone can look a little weird. OP - you can buy retin A online but remember it does have an induction period that will take around a month. You start by applying a tiny tiny amount every 4 or 5 days and gradually builds up as your skin gets used to it. If you don't then you will probably get a lot of irritation and peeling. I found with differin I could just whack it straight on my face

Though I am not indian I am a convert to Ayurveda. It uses natural ingredients and they really work. I have never taken care of my skin, lived in hot\sunny countries and never used sun screen.... I had a LOT of sun\age spots and wrinkles because of it. a freind of mine after seeing me after many years was shocked how bad my skin had become. At that time I was at an Ayurveda Dr. for my hair fall and so I asked what I should do. He gave me a cream that I should use at night. It just has oils of safron, camphor, and one more thing (sorry cant remember) ....anyway, its been two weeks and I have to say I am amazed. My age spots are down by 60%, pores are much smaller and skin is glowing..... I love the stuff.....and it only costs 23 AED. Hi Do u know where can i buy it ..does it help in build the skin? I bought mine from the Ayurvedic Dr. not sure where else one can buy it. its just a tiny tube. I'll post the name once I get home

I did notice some difference, when I was back in the UK and under 50. I think that out here you need something more to help you out and it also depends on your age. edited by Geordie expat on 16/06/2014 Early fifties but my skin is still quite good but want to keep it that way. Mid fifties now, but I still swear more by the night cream along with not much make up and sun screen.

I've always believed that the best thing to do is invest in a really good moisturising night cream. Doesn't matter about the make just make sure you put plenty on overnight. Then make sure you thoroughly cleanse in the morning to remove all traces. That's all I've ever done for the last 30+ years and I certainly don't feel I have a lot of wrinkles. I do believe a lot of it is genetics, climate, diet etc My Grandma smoked like a chimney and always used soap, water and ponds cream She passed at 97 with hardly any wrinkles on her face I agree Mum was the same, although it was Dad who smoked like a chimney and unfortunately we just had to sit and bear it. It was the norm back though, thankfully things have changed now

http://thesciencebit.net/2012/05/03/is-there-evidence-for-anti-ageing-creams/ "Last year, Which? magazine described analyses of 1,800 photographs of people’s eyes and eyelids. They found that, when it came to reducing wrinkles, the most expensive cosmetic product made no more difference than the cheapest cream. Any effect was probably due to the effects of moisturisation. Many experts argue that the simplest way to make your skin look smooth is to hydrate it. In the end, there is probably no cream that will produce a true anti-ageing effect. We can moisturise to keep skin supple, and apply make-up to hide blemishes and spots."

Sorry to be a spoilsport but as far as I'm aware, there is little or no research showing that anti-ageing creams actually work. What *does* help is a healthy lifestyle. You need to avoid the 5 S's: Sun Smoking Stress Sugar Sleeplessness I don't do too well on the last two but try to follow this routine. I apply factor 50 before I leave the house, carry an umbrella outdoors and never sunbathe. Obviously I don't smoke, try to relax (e.g. by exercising), try to eat healthily, hardly drink at all and *try* to get enough sleep (not always easy with 3 kids). The only creams I use (other than sunscreen) are Nivea Q10 eye cream, hand cream and a daily body lotion. Not sure whether any of it helps (lol) but ppl tend to say I don't look my age (40). Maybe they're just being polite and I am in denial though!! I have no intention of having botox or fillers as in *my* view they just look fake and need to be topped up all the time. I see so many mums at school who have had them done and they just look puffed up and/or expressionless. Still, if it feels good to them then why not... each unto their own. I also think it's important no to wear too much make-up... far from making women look younger, it tends to have the opposite effect. Hth x

I would think the reason the Retin A products are banned here is because they are known to be linked to cancer where sun exposure is involved. Excellent point! Retin A and other retinoids should only be used at night. I prefer to use a physical only sunscreen that doesn't contain other weird stuff that might break down, r react with other skin products. I also do not use BHA or AHA exfoliants in the morning as the acidity of them does not 'mix' well with the use of antioxidant serums .very strange here how promotion ladies are annoying . I hate the staff in Boots here and other pharmacies are also really bad. I won't even go in to some shops any more You can try differin in lieu of retin A. It's 24 aed. Otherwise I suggest you go on Beautypedia and look and see which creams contain retinol and are not overpriced. Proactive clarifying night cream is marketed for acne but it contains retinol and BHAs, which are both effective on wrinkles Leena125 - if you had no improvement on your scar after laser treatments than you can try something called "subcision" This is to physically break down the bands of scar tissue that are causing the depression. Also, which laser treatment did you have? The best for scars are Scaar Fx, Fraxel Repair, Deep Fx Hi celticcavegirl - i think i have gone to the wrong place to get done the laser treatment.it was the big mistake i did by wasting 9000aed plus .it was kaya clinic and they have given me a package for laser with some peeling but to be honest after spending this much of money i havent seen any results and my scars are same.its such a horrible place. After that I havent try any other place as i just dont want to waste any more money. So im waiting for some recomendation.i think was fraxel they did.
