pparently you need to get you car washed at approved car wash stations and not let yr watchman do it anymore....got a 500 AED fine :(

Probably lucky it was just a 500 AED fine as it would come under the same category as part time maids/part time gardeners etc. Anything you don't get a receipt for you can consider to be illegal.

This rule has been there forever, our building management offers cleaning service in the building parking space, the watch man is not allowed to clean cars. The cleaners offer the service. Beware, they are fining those who hang clothes on balconies, nothing should show from outside, a friend of mine got a fine just recently although the clothes were on a lining stand but the stand was showing from the balcony

yup that law has been in place since 2011... it used to be only 250dhs... then last year they made it 500... here's the newspaper article http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/environment/sharjah-authorities-to-regulate-car-washing-1.1174800 it's not just sharjah - dubai also!!
