Hi ladies,
i'm hoping someone out there can help me? My 4 month old is teething and has a terrible terrible diaper rash and has had it for 2 weeks. I have tried 4 different creams (1 that the doctor prescribed) but nothing is working and it seems to be getting worse the poor thing. Does anyone know what other creams out there might help AND where I can buy CLOTH diapers? I've checked mothercare but didn't have any.
thanks ladies, hope you can help

Hi there! Glad to hear tooth is in and rash gone. When it happens again (as it will..), I use sudocream on a daily basis on my baby's bottom but when he is teething and has a really sore bum, the cream I swear by is Weleda nappy changing cream. It's all organic so 100% natural and it works wonders on my baby's bum. My sister swears by it too and she used it on her 2 children. I normally bring a tube back from Europe but am sure you can find it here if you look around. I know that the Organic Food & Cafe in Dubai stocks Weleda and I'm sure they can order the nappy cream for you if they don't already have it in stock. It's really the best out there. One other small tip, I NEVER use baby wipes on my baby's bottom....just plain old cotton wool and water which is a lot less aggressive on our little one's bums! And one last tip for teething, when I was in Europe last summer, a lady in a pharmacy in Switzerland suggested I buy an amber stone necklace for when my baby is teething and I had heard before that this worked really well in soothing their pain so I did buy one and my son wears it almost every day as he's teething now and he's never cried once with any of his 6 teeth!

I second Sudocreme as well. When DD was young she had bad bad rash I put three or four of those bed mats on the floor and left her there with her nappy off so that air could get to it. Also I didn't use any wipes just water and cotton wool to clean.

Ive tried a zillion cremes as well and i found the most simple creme that worked the best...its called SUDOCREME and is available at the kids/baby section at all Carrefour and LULU outlets...even at pharmacies. Its inexpensive but it works wonders. It even works for cuts and burns...so its a good antiseptic to have at home. Look out for a grey plastic tub kind of package with a red Label.

i changed to pampers premium and the diaper rush went away. We had pampers from Europe, once I used the pampers here, he got diaper rush. Maybee he is sensitive. I also have a cream called penaten. Its great.

Did you try a cream called something like Diaktart, that isn't the correct name but it is similar, sorry I can't remember exactly, it is a green and white tube and about 10 ish dhs, it works wonders! You have to buy it from over the counter, the pharmacist would know.

We have the Tots Bots system, 21 in all so if you would like half let me know. My DD is nearly 21 months and has decided that she only wants training pants and pull ups so I am not using them all.

My son had terrible diaper rash as well and I finally managed to get to grips with it by blotting his bottom with tissues. airing it for a while and then applying Mustela cream called Stelactiv. A tad pricey but it cleared up his worst nappy rashes within 2 days. Best cream ever!

Once DD had a horrible rash. Nothing was working, cornflour, metanium (which usually works beautifully),vaseline, bepanthen, hydrocortisone cream etc. Then, I just gave up and started using plain old nivea cream (in a blue tub). And voila, it was gone!!!! I dried baby's bottom, then put a thick layer on everytime and fanned it for a while. Who would think nivea cream can cure a rash?

I found the only cream that worked on the odd occasion she had nappy rash (usually when travelling and used disposable nappies) was the Palmers Cocoa Butter cream. Hard to find sometimes though but I found the smaller chemists had it. Might have my cloth nappies for sale soon, will post on classifieds when they are available.

You can get antiseptic powders to keep his bottom dry too. One is called Medi-pulv, not sure if you can get it here. Also when I was in lebanon, one of my girls got a rash and her pediatrician gave us cortisone cream as to be used in conjunction with this red paint (cant remember what it's called) I think it's some kind of antiseptic and it dried the skin. You apply it, let it dry and then apply the cortisone cream, it worked wonders. I would also try betadine antiseptic in the same way if you can seem to find the red one.

Have you tried any of the old fashioned creams? I swear by vaseline as it works as a waterproof barrier against the skin and E45 for soothing. Good luck

Try cornflour. The most simple item and works wonders for nappy rash.

Thanks ladies, I will definitely try the creams that was suggested. I have already taken him to the doctor but the cream he suggested doesn't seem to be working and it's a hydrocortisone cream. One last thing though...does anyone know where Imcan buy cloth diapers for when being naked is not an option? Thanks again everyone

Hi there, I'm not sure if available here ( usually from UK ) but metanium creme is the best ever for severe nappy rash I remember my DS having such bad nappy rash once that I wiped the skin and the top layer wiped away and bled, he screamed , I cried too and my mum who's a nurse suggested this creme, it's what they use in hospitals for patients with bed sores, and all I can say it's a miracle , maybe try boots as that's where I used to get it in UK, my MIL already has it on her list to bring in feb when my DS 2 is due as I would not be without it ! Hope you get it sorted x

Hi, Some tips I've found useful tog et rid of normal nappy rash or rash caused by fungal infection: Try to leave the nappy off as much as possible - a few times a day for an hour or so. Usually easiest when he/she is sleeping is easiest - just lay on an absorbent towel. Change the nappy as soon as it is soiled and wash the skin with water each time, but dab with wet cotton wool or dip in a bowl of water. Don't use soap or baby wipes (you can use ordinary cooking oil to get rid of resilient stains! Some people swear by using cooled camomile tea to clean and calm the area. Make sure skin is completely dry and only used a zinc-based cream like Sudocrem if the rash is in its early stages as although it prevents the amonia from reaching the skin, it will also prevent air from reaching the rash. I've found Pampers premium to be excellent for keeping the skin dry. It might be better to not give long baths for a few days and don't use talcom powder. Try to avoid eating tomatoes. citrus fruit and avocadoes when teething. If it's looking really painful it's probably best to just go to the doctor and he'll probably give you a topical hydrocortisone cream which will help within help to reduce inflammation, itching and redness, or topical anticandidals if it's thrush related. If he/she has a tempreature it may be a bacterial infection so should go to the doctor for antibiotics.

Nappy rash is horrible. My neice had it badly once, so we would hose her down with the detachable shower head in the bath, rather than rub the area with wipes, then we would pat her dry with a very soft face cloth. As mentioned below, try and give lots of nude time as well to dry the area out. My son has had a little bit recently as he has had a case of diarrhoea, so it started to flare up, I would just make sure I was changing his nappy frequently (at least every 2 hours - he is 11 months) and then have been liberally apply bepanthen to the entire area - it doesn't seem to irritate him at all, and seems to clear his up really quickly. I hope you find something soon that helps out.

try and get his bottom in fresh air as much as possible. You could wrap him loosely in a muslin cloth or get some cheap cotton pants - this is just to catch the poo and obviously won't stop the occasional puddle! Fresh air is especially important if his rash looks very red and weepy - check that it's not infected too - or if there are blisters. The plus side is that skin "down there" heals very quickly. If you are breastfeeding, look to your own diet and maybe cut out acidic things such as oranges, lemons and tomatoes for a bit. Sounds bizarre, but I know 2 people who could attribute bad nappy rash to their own diet.

Has be been on Antibiotics recently? In November my boy was on antibiotics (in USA) and soon after he got a nappy rash that was quite bad. Took him to the doc here 2 weeks later saying it still hadn't cleared and nappy rash cream wasn't working he said it was a bad yeast infection and gave him caneasten cream 3 times a day for 21 days and after 2 days it started clearing and completely went away. He said because of the antibiotics his immune system was down that's why he got it. Maybe give that a try?
