Asked about it in baby shop today in MOE and was toldit has been out of stock for 8 months or so. Did you mean it had a teathered strap which is used instead of isofix in US cars? They had those ones but was advised by guy in shop it wouldn't be suitable for a flight but queried that as said on them FAA approved. Over 1000aed though. Am very interested in the outcome of this as travelling with 8month DD in July.

My sister said the one she took on Air France was a Britax, but she's not home at the moment and the seat is currently stored at our parents' place. I'll speak to Mum tonight or tomorrow morning to see if she can find it and see what the name is. My sister specifically asked AF if she could take the Priori on the flight and they said no, because it was lap and shoulder belt restrained and not just lap. I'm a bit confused, though - the lever that holds the belt in place on the Priori we have in the UK is high up on the back, so does the lap belt reach up there? I know the lever is pretty tight when it's secured so the seat won't move, so it would be pretty safe.

Hi Of course, for take-off, landing and turbulence I had to hold him on my lap with the extended belt. The reason I had the car seat on board was to restrain a constantly moving toddler and the special lever press for the lap portion of the XP held the seat secure for that purpose. For overall saftey on the flight, I always had to take him out and have him on my lap.

If the car seat should be fastened with a shoulder belt then it is not secure to use on aplane. Reason being if their is turbulence etc then the car seat would be at danger of falling forward with your child strapped in it as nothing to hold the back of the seat in place. Being wedged in is not a chance you would take in a car. Think it has to be a 5 point harness for take off and landing or if under 2 then must be on lap. Am former hostie and have seen too many accidents. This is what was explained to us when speaking to Emirates. They said that although some manufacturers state that the seat is fine to use on the plane that does not mean that every airline will approve them. Thankfully ours was as it is designed as a flight seat first and car seat second. Features like you mentioned, 5 point harness and the fact it is narrower than your average car seat. Also, because it is a lap fastening seat it does not move at all when fastened on a plane. Best to check with specific airlines first.

Just read on another site that BA have Britax seats for onboard use so see if you can track down one here. Good luck. edited by nutty on 26/04/2011

Hi I flew with the same carseat on Emirates a couple of summers ago when my son was 16 months. It was fine to secure it by lap belt. I just secured it using the lever press part of the seat (if that makes sense?) Honestly it is pretty wedged in and totally fine. When I went to check in, I made sure I had printed off the Emirates website section stating the car seat regulations PLUS the pages from the Maxi Cosi website confirming the specs of the car seat. I knew I would get questioned but when they looked at the paperwork they confirmed it was ok... and said I should be a lawyer!

We got a seat from Babyshop that we have used many times on Emirates. A couple of times ground crew have stopped saying we cannot take it onboard. However we argued the point and spoke to a manager who agreed it was allowed. To prevent this situation occurring again we took the printed info off the Emirates site. The problem was more to do with staff not knowing any seat was allowed on a plane rather than which. Anyway the seat cost about 300AED and looks like a very basic car seat. Does not recline, fastens with a lap belt and if to be used in a car has a long strap that fastens in the boot. The seat harness has the usual fastener but also further up the shoulder strap a second clip. I am pretty sure it was called a flight seat when we got it from MOE. Ours is pink and we have used it for DD from being 8 months old, she is 3 now. I have to say it was the best purchase ever!! I wish I could let you use it, however there is a real possibility we may be travelling within the next month and cannot chance it. Especially since we have another DD who is 1 and we will benifit massively from her sitting in it! Good luck with the search. If you want me to mail a picture to you then leave your email on here.

I thought that under 2s have to be on your lap for take off and landing with the extension seat belt so the car seat is only for a more comfortable seat. I have never travelled with a car seat with my kids as they were happy to be in the seat. I would make a little camp/nest for them with pillows and blankets and strap them in. As soon as they fell asleep I would tighten the belts. The maci cosi xp is pretty heavy to cart around. Is it so that you have a car seat the other end? If so might it be easier to hire one when you get there?

My daughter's Chico infant seat has the FAA sticker on but that doesnt really make sense because rear facing car seats aren't allowed! Thanks DubaiCat, really appreciate it.

I haven't used that particular seat on the plane but I used to be crew with Emirates and if I remember rightly, only car seats that were secured with a lap belt were allowed as the aircraft seatbelt is only across the lap. It's a bit daft, really, because I don't know of any car seats that are only secured with a lap belt! I did see some capsule seats with the 'airline approved' sticker so they do exist, but they'll probably be too small for your LO. My sister took a car seat on Air France with her DD when she was about your LO's age. I'll call and ask her which one it was.

Hi Ladies Sorry for posting this on the main board but I am at my wits end and am hoping that you wonderful ladies could provide me with some feedback. I am flying to the US with my 18 month old next week, it was a last minute decision due to a family emergency. We purchased my daughter a seat because there is no way I can hold her for 16 hours and I was hoping to take my carseat on board with me. I have a Maxi Cosi Priori XP, which meets European safety standards requirements of ECE regulation 44, -03 that is listed on the Emirates website. However, it is secured using a shoulder belt and the Emirates website says that the car seat must be secured using a lap belt. I think it would still be "secure" enough for the plane just using the lap belt? I really don't want to be told that I can't use the carseat so I even went to Babyshop and Mothercare today planning to purchase one that can be scured using a lap belt and has an FAA approved sticker but they told me they didnt have any car seats for sale that were approved for use in an airplane?! My question is has anyone been able to use a Maxi Cosi Priori on an Emirates flight? If i take a printout of the approved car seat list from the EK website and show that the car seat has the sticker saying it meets the ECE regulations will it suffice? I tried to call Emirates today and get an answer but they seemed surprised that I was allowed to even take a car seat on the plane?! TIA!
