Hi everyone, I am new to Dubai and currently I am car shopping. Needing a 7 seater with Isofix (also called LATCH in the US). Can anyone recommend a car that has this?

Alternatively, has anyone successfully had the Isofix fitted in a car that didn't originally have it? I am a bit worried about whether someone fitting it would get it right, but that is only an issue if I can find where to buy the isofix fittings in the first place.

Would be grateful for any advice.

Thanks.

Thanks for all the comments. Thought I'd share my findings from the lat few days of trawling through garages (yawn!!). Here are cars that have isofix (7 or 8-seaters), check year and model just in case though... Toyota Prado Hyundi SantaFe Ford Explorer Chevrolet Traverse Mazda CX-9 Honda Pilot Currently, I am between the Chvrolet and Mazda...I am sure there are loads more out there...just not a given in the UAE.

We have a cadillac escalade purchased new in 2008 and it has 2 isofix/latch fittings. It was definitely a requirement need by us needing fittings for two car seats. It's a great car and is an 8 seater. Might be worth considering even a second hand one if after 2008.

We rented a car last week in France and the first one they gave us - a brand new hatchback, but I can't remember the make - definitely did NOT have Isofix. We had to ask to change it for one that did. I have a 2008 Ford Explorer in Dubai and it has Isofix. Reasonably priced, too. edited by DubaiCat on 31/08/2011 Edited because I seem to have become illiterate. edited by DubaiCat on 31/08/2011

It is not a legal requirement for the UAE to have Isofix. You do have to be careful and check each car Interesting. Both our Jeeps have it and we didn't ask about it when we bought them, because we didn't have kids then. It's certainly been legally-mandated in America that all cars sold there since September 2002 must have Isofix points, so you should find that American-built cars here (like Jeeps!) all have them. As of March this year it's also been an EU requirement that all cars built and sold in Europe must have the points, so the chances are that if you buy a new European car you'll be OK too. edited by edna.welthorpe on 31/08/2011

You do have to be careful and check each car, my car a 2010 Pajero with all the bell's and whistles DOES NOT have Isofix. ditto above not all cars 2010/11 models come with isofix (such as Kia, Hyundai, Pajero, Qashqai Nissan we looked into it few months back), as it is not a law here...also I was told by one saleman adding isofix might null and void car's varranty

[We have a 2008 Armada LE and it [u'>does not[/u'> have any anchor points. Really shocking since it's so new. But with the Isofix base and the seat belt you can get the car seat nice and tight. edited by Kaba on 31/08/2011 Thanks for that! It always pays to ask in Dubai=-)

If you're buying new, then whatever car you get will have it. It's a legal requirement. If you're buying used, most manufacturers have been required by law to fit Isofix/LATCH points since late 2002, so any cars younger than 9 years should be fine. You can easily check the rear seats to see if the points are there. Get the salesman to demonstrate if you're not confident doing it yourself. Sorry to hijack, but I was going to post a similar question relating to isofix anyone driving an Nissan Armada- say 2008 onwards? I'd like to know if they have isofix and/ or anchor points. We are moving back from NZ in jan and bubby number 2 will have made his enterance needs a carseat and I'm wondering if I can just use our maxi cosi with a isofix base or I'm better off using DD1 carseat with top tether strap for bubs and getting her a new one instead. We used to have a 2006 Armada at one point but having no kids at the time I never paid much attention! And yes.. I have googled it.. just want some in the dxb confirmation=-) Thanks chance We have a 2008 Armada LE and it [u'>does not[/u'> have any anchor points. Really shocking since it's so new. Isofix isn't just a bolt-on spare part, it's an integral part of the car body. As long as you're not planning to buy a car over 9 years old, though, you shouldn't have any worries about it not coming with Isofix points.

Thanks for the reply. I like the Prado but was maybe hoping for something a little less expensive.

My Toyota Prado has it and it's not a new car. It only has 2-point fixings but newer cars have 3-point fixings. I'm not sure how the standards relate to GCC cars though. As I said, the Prado is Isofix/LATCH compatible and hopefully owners of different vehicles will come on and let you know of other options. Personally i wouldn't get Isofix fittings installed retrospectively, there are enough cars that come with it as standard.
