Morning ladies!

I'm trying to plan an adventure to Salalah....according to the Oman Air website you CAN fly direct (Weds and Saturdays) but I'm not having much joy finding this when booking.

The only option is to stop off in Muscat - which makes the trip around 6 hours.

Has anyone had any success booking the direct flights? If you've had to stop off, is the journey worth it?

A 6 hour flight is not long, but want to work out if it's worth it (could go to Hong Kong in an extra hour!)

Thanks in advance, as always,

K

I rented a small car which was sufficient even driving through the mountains.

We've hired vehicles from Mark Tours each time we've been to Salalah. With all the rain during the khareef some of the back roads can get slushy so we've always had a LandCruiser. The Mark Tours guys will meet you at the airport or your hotel whichever suits you.

Just another quick question - if anyone has any hire car tips when there, that would be great! eg is it better to hire from the airport, from the hotel, or before we arrive...thank you :)

We always just taxi-ed when we used Air Arabia, so can't help with long term parking, sorry. There are some awesome drives and adventures to be done through Oman, thats for sure...it's just that it took us 7 hours to get to Abu Dhabi once and I'm permently off road trips that are over 4 hours. The long straight roads make life simpler but they are monotonous, anything through the mountains or down the coast is spectacular.

We were looking at flying from Sharjah with AirArabia, the cost seems quite good. Has anyone tried this route and how easy is it to leave your car at Sharjah, or is there some other way to get to the airport?

When I went, I booked through a travel agency so air/hotel/transport to and from airport was included. To be honest, I don't remember if it was a direct flight or not. I do remember it was a very easy trip though so I'm assuming it was. Either way, it's a great place to visit.

We'd love to do the drive- but yes 1,300 km- one day- we know some people have done it and it's an amazing adventure. It's not that big there so you could stay in one place- we stayed in the Hilton. There is a really good but slightly old blog that features the trip here http://salalahtrip.blogspot.com/ Things might have changed a little bit.

Hi there! Some of us have been from the office and it is worth the trip http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_travel_adventure_Trip_to_Salalah_Oman_8611.aspx Some flew direct some went via Muscat. Car hire there is quite cheap and worth it to explore the area- there's mile upon mile of untouched beaches and lots of sights to see. It feels really different to here. Plus it's the Khareef festival at the moment there and it's a lot cooler. If you do go have a fab time! HTH thank you so much! i was hoping to go eid week. did your team stay in one place or move around and stay in a few different places?
